Pressure and temperatures are rising in the Sarthe…
Once is not custom, the GP of France should be disputed under the sun! An ideal scenario for French speed enthusiasts who are already starting to flock to the third round of the 2010 MotoGP championship.. Appetizer.
After a 2009 edition particularly marked by bad weather (read), the Continental Circus took up residence in the Sarthe under a bright sun.
The scene of the third event of the 2010 season, the French Moto Grand Prix should keep all its promises in terms of spectacle, especially as the pressure at the top of the championship is already very intense. !

4 points ahead for Lorenzo
Leader of the provisional world championship with four points ahead of Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo has already given a broad overview of his motivation during a spectacular end of the race in Jerez (read and) !
The Spaniard does not hide his ambition to transform the test this weekend at Le Mans, where he had won masterfully in 2009 … "Competing so many races in such a short time will be physically hard because you are always on the bike and you don’t have time to stop to rest, but it’s good for the riders because running every weekend is our reason for living !", declares Lorenzo in reference to the series of five events in seven weeks that the French race launches..
"We tested electronic systems in Jerez after the race and there were things that improved our first laps, but we mainly worked on the starts. I had to push really hard this year to make up for lost distance on the starts and this is the area in which we want to improve !", adds n ° 99.
Motivated Rossi !
Once again approached by Ducati for the 2011 season (but also Ferrari which does not despair of entering a third F1 in the colors of the Doctor!), Valentino Rossi did not wish to return to the many rumors of the corridors concerning the market for transfers (like n ° 46, Lorenzo, Stoner and Pedrosa do indeed come to the end of their contract at the end of the 2010 season). However, he was reassuring about the pain inflicted on him by his shoulder injury "My shoulder is much better. I’m obviously not 100% yet, but it’s already a lot better than in Jerez", explains the Italian, who has already won three times at Le Mans in the premier class but remains in a humiliating sixteenth place in the 2009 edition (read)…
The last ten winners |
|
"I had all kinds of results at Le Mans (read box opposite). I had good races and had some great wins, but I was also unlucky and had poor results. Last year was the worst weekend of my season: I wasn’t fast enough to stay ahead and I finished last in the race … It was quite disappointing !", continues the Doctor, adding that"this track is always a bit tricky because you have to find weird settings to have good braking stability. There is always a wheelie problem in the acceleration following the hairpin, but you also need to have a fast and agile bike for the last section"…
150th Grand Prix for Pedrosa
Following his second place in Jerez and after positive post-GP tests, Dani Pedrosa is preparing for his 150th Grand Prix on a circuit where he has already distinguished himself in 250 cc but never in MotoGP.
"On the one hand it’s a very fast track, and on the other hand it’s very difficult because there are a lot of hard braking and a lot of passing points.", sums up the Catalan pilot."There is always a good competition here and it has been quite lively the last few years, because we had to change bikes or because the weather was unstable. It was pretty fun !"
Stoner in trouble ?
Currently eighth in the 2010 MotoGP standings following his fall in Qatar and his modest fifth place in Jerez, Casey Stoner wants to make up for it this weekend on a track that has never smiled on the Ducatis. Concentrated, the Australian has also rejected all questions about his future in MotoGP…
A future that some are already announcing at the HRC where his ex team manager, Livio Suppo, would go out of his way to hire the 2007 world champion !
"Because of the "jerky" nature of the circuit, you need a bike that is very stable on braking but also fairly agile and quick in corner exits, especially in slow sections."says Stoner."We had managed to be fast and ahead in the past, but we never got the results we wanted. This year I think we have bigger goals than the last two seasons and we will do our best to achieve them.", predicts the Ducati rider.
Randy de Puniet: this Grand Prix should offer some surprises !
Finally Randy de Puniet, rather at ease on the Le Mans circuit in 250 since he was on the podium four times between 2002 and 2005, approaches his national race all the more confident as he has set the fourth fastest time. post-GP tests in Jerez.
Arrived in Sarthe yesterday, the only French rider in the premier class spent the afternoon with sick children at the Le Mans Hospital Center, in the company of Ben Spies (Tech 3) and Marco Simoncelli (Moto2).
"It was a good experience for me and for the children, I think everyone is happy"Randy said. It’s not easy to come here and see kids who are doing badly, but I hope everyone had a good day.".
Currently the first private rider in the MotoGP ranking and sixth overall, Randy will have to face additional pressure this weekend at Le Mans in front of his home crowd … Author of an encouraging start to the season, he is hopeful "land an official motorcycle next year"and recalls that its objective remains to be"capable one day of (himself) fight for a world champion title" !
This French Grand Prix must have a special flavor for you, the only French representative in MotoGP?
Randy de Puniet : There is always a little pressure when riding at home. So far my results in MotoGP have not been very good, unlike my races in 250 cc (4 podiums between 2002 and 2005, editor’s note). This year, my season has started well and there is no reason for it to end here. Besides, I hope to have all the public behind me during the race !
But for someone like you who loves big curves, the Bugatti is no gift.
Randy de Puniet : Indeed it is a circuit of braking and acceleration that I do not particularly like, but I always feel comfortable there. Previously I had grip and traction issues, but we worked a lot on this aspect this year on the Honda and I think we will be okay..
Your goal remains to be the first private pilot behind the official teams?
Randy de Puniet : Yes. For now, with this provisional sixth place in the world championship, I’m there. It only remains to remain so until the end of the season. Obviously with LCR we do not have the means available to our opponents and do not benefit from all the developments during the season, but my goal is to be in front of them at least during practice, to show myself and to be closest to them in the race.
Your eyes are already on 2011?
Randy de Puniet : It’s up to me to have a good season to land an official bike next year. My goal remains to be able one day to fight for a world champion title..
Some are already reporting rumors of transfers among top drivers. What do you think ?
Randy de Puniet : After two races, it’s a bit of nonsense. As far as I’m concerned, my contract with LCR, which started in 2008, should expire at the end of the year. I may still be with them next season or at Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda, Ducati. Maybe even at home !! I don’t know yet.
Excellent weekend to all our readers ! |
While waiting for this great fight which is announced on the Bugatti circuit, the Journal moto du Net wishes an excellent weekend to all its readers who will be at Le Mans, and particularly to the first 15 holders of the news who received a 3-day Grandstand Pass as a welcome gift to enjoy it under the best conditions ! |
You will be 30 years old next February. Additional pressure with the arrival of young wolves ?
Randy de Puniet : Every year you have to question yourself, but it is true that this season is important for me, like last year because I was coming out of a very bad patch. In 2009 I had a great first half of the season and I broke my ankle, I ended the year badly without being able to reach my goals. This year I have better equipment, I made good physical progress this winter, I feel better armed. All this allows me to be more efficient. This Grand Prix should offer some surprises !
