The Brazilian Grand Prix is canceled
For lack of a contract signed with the organizers, the Brazilian Grand Prix scheduled for April 17 is canceled. In exchange, the new Istanbul circuit could host a Turkish Grand Prix on October 23.
New upheaval in the 2005 MotoGP calendar of events: we remember (read) that following the arrival of the United States for the MotoGP class, South Africa had been ousted in favor of Brazil.
However, the Rio Grand Prix, initially scheduled for April 17, has in turn jumped "lack of signed contract", explains the Dorna (the organizing company of the Motorcycle Grand Prix) today in a terse press release.
"I am obviously disappointed", explained Alex Barros on hearing the news."After 1998, this is the second time that this has happened, but this time it is even more disappointing because it was probably the last Grand Prix that we were going to compete on this circuit.", specifies the Brazilian pilot."The city plans to demolish part of the track. It will only be 3,100 meters and can only host national races."…
The Portuguese Grand Prix, initially scheduled for October 30, will therefore be brought forward to April 17, while a newcomer, the Turkish Grand Prix, could take place on the new Istanbul circuit on October 23 ".if an agreement is found", specify the organizers.
The Istanbul circuit, designed by the German architect Herman Tilke (also author of the circuits of Sepang, Bahrain and Shanghai), has 14 turns: eight left and six right.
The calendar of events for 2005 is therefore as follows today:
