The UFC-Que Choisir asks for a reduction of 29 euros on motorcycle insurance
The UFC-Que Choisir asks insurers to pay back to their car and motorcycle policyholders the 2.2 billion euros in savings related to confinement and proposes a standard letter for the reduction of contributions. Explanations.
While some insurers such as have anticipated the call with a, the UFC-Que Choisir goes further and asks the government to impose the repayment of 2.2 billion euros to insured auto and motorcycle.

According to the Insurance Code, "the insured is entitled in the event of a reduction in risk during the contract to a reduction in the amount of the premium", recalls the Federal Union of Consumers, calculating that since the travel restrictions decreed on the 17th March 2020, "the frequency of bodily accidents has fallen by 91% and should remain permanently below its historical average".

Based on the "median scenario of a return to normal by mid-July", UFC-Que Choisir forecasts "a reduction in compensation of around 1.8 billion euros".
But "for the decrease in contributions to be strictly equal to that of compensation, insurers must further reduce the amount of premiums" to the extent that "the latter include proportional taxes that they collect for the State", continues the consumer defense association. This is why the association calls for "a reduction of 2.2 billion euros in contributions, a decrease of 50 euros per car and 29 euros per motorcycle".
While waiting for the Minister of the Economy and Finance to accede – or not … – to his request "to require insurers to retrocede their savings linked to confinement by a reduction in premiums making it possible to consolidate the household budget", UFC-Que Choisir offers all policyholders an option allowing them to claim from their insurer a reduction in their contribution.
