Four new Peugeot scooters in 2011
Peugeot obviously has ambition to spare for 2011: whether electric (e-Vivacity), 2-stroke engine (Jet Force H2i), GT (Citystar) or sporty (Speedfight 3 Team Peugeot), the new scooters of the Lion of Sochaux are firing on all cylinders !
Peugeot now has 22 scooters in its catalog, eight of which have a displacement of between 50 – yes, "more than 49.9 cc" – and 500 cc. This diversity should help it land on the Chinese market in the coming weeks thanks to the support of the local manufacturer Qingqi with whom it concluded a joint-venture agreement in 2006..
e-Vivacity: an annual energy cost of less than € 20 per year !
Widely used in the Middle Kingdom, electric motorization is therefore at the center of the French manufacturer’s concerns: at the EICMA show in Milan, the star of the Peugeot stand was the e-Vivacity electric scooter, already unveiled at the Paris Motor Show. Automobile in Paris (read). It is powered by an electric motor Brushless powered by two 2kWh lithium-ion batteries that can be recharged in five hours on a 220-volt outlet or on one of the few charging stations installed in large cities.
Short (192 cm long), compact (68 cm wide) and with a relatively low weight (110 kg), this "zero emission" scoot takes the frame of the Vivacity 50 cc 2-stroke to which it would stick 35 hundredths. seconds (3’15 sec against 3’50 sec) during a ten-meter standing start.
On the other hand, despite the recovery of kinetic energy during decelerations, the e-Vivacity would not exceed 60 km of autonomy at 45 km / h: no big deal according to Peugeot, which calculated that in town the average distance travel (car or public transport) does not exceed 7 km. A uniquely urban toy, therefore, which even adopts a reverse gear to facilitate maneuvers !
Peugeot confirms its marketing in France for March 2011 at a price of 3,600 euros, and aims for an annual production of 15,000 units (i.e. 10% of its European sales) by 2015.
This high price must however be put into perspective because a "full" of energy would amount to € 0.25 and only € 0.4 per 100 km according to the bicentennial brand, which will offer a four-year or 40,000 km warranty on The batteries.
Citystar 125: the missing link ?
Second Peugeot novelty for 2011 (but with a thermal engine this time!), The Citystar completes the 125 offer of the Lion de Sochaux: this scooter manufactured in France at the Mandeure site, in the Doubs (25), is inserted between the Sum-Up and the Satelis.
Aesthetically, the almond-shaped headlights and the elegant chrome grille refer directly to the brand’s automobiles, while the 35-liter trunk and its grab handles reflect a certain search for comfort..
Equipped with a 124.8 cc single-cylinder engine developing 13.5 hp and 12 Nm of torque, this Citystar would be as efficient as it is sober: Peugeot announces consumption of around 3.5 l per 100 km and a theoretical range of 260 km. Side cycle, the 13-inch rims suggest an easy grip. Road holding is provided by a 37 mm fork and two adjustable preload shocks.
Practical, this 155 kg scooter offers a glove box with 12 V socket, two crutches, a complete dashboard, retractable passenger footrests and a coded immobilizer. The Peugeot Citystar 125 will be available in spring 2011 in midnight blue, pearly black, aluminum gray or vanilla at a price still unknown..
Jet Force H2i: Peugeot still believes in 2-stroke
Alongside these two big novelties, Peugeot also presents its 50 cc Jet Force H2i scooter, powered by a 2-stroke injection engine..
Blamed for its high pollutant emissions (not to mention the volutes of oil), the 2-stroke engine continues to be used by many scooter manufacturers – but also by KTM off-road. Peugeot intends to keep this engine going, but by adopting injection to reduce emissions.
According to French engineers, this choice would provide 35% more power compared to a 4-stroke engine. And thanks to progress in injection, consumption would be 25% lower than a 50 cc 2-stroke carbureted engine..
"Eco-citizen", the Jet Force H2i scooter would even anticipate future European regulations on polluting emissions on the 50 cc, since it would respond "already to the Euro 3 standard", specifies Peugeot.
Finally, Peugeot is riding on the success of the 908 HDI FAP by offering its Speedfight 3 sports scooter in the colors of its endurance prototype (four-wheeled and diesel!) Which has just won the 1000 km of Silverstone. Equipped with black machined 13-inch aluminum rims, this Speedfight 3 Team Peugeot offers a red stitched saddle, aluminum footrests, a spoiler (!) And a 12 V socket.
