The right product in the right segment

Until now elitist and aging, the MV Agusta offer is the subject of a welcome repositioning: in part thanks to the iconic F4 and the Brutale range have never been so accessible. Better still: the range of the manufacturer from Varese is expanding with new products in line with the demands of the motorcycle market.

Brutal RR 1090

MV Agusta launches its ultimate roadster: the Brutale RR 1090. Announcing 158 hp and 100 Nm of torque, its 1078 cc 4-cylinder engine is the most powerful block in the entire Brutale range: there is no doubt that the presence of an anti-dribble clutch and traction control configurable on 8 levels will not be superfluous !

On the chassis side, this Brutale RR 1090 receives a tubular steel trellis, Brembo monobloc radial callipers and fully adjustable suspensions (Marzocchi inverted fork and Sachs shock absorber). It will be available at the end of the month against € 18,800 (price in Italy) in silver red, gray and matt black or in a new tri-color "America" ​​(white, red, blue).

After discovering its promising, MV Agusta launches its expected Naked version: the Brutale 675 which offers a less intimidating and more affordable entry ticket to the Brutale range (see box opposite).

Powered by the deflated F3’s inline three-cylinder from 128 to 115 hp – still 9 more than the Street Triple – this 675 cc roadster also has almost the same chassis as the new Supersport MV.

Announcing 71 Nm of torque at 10,600 rpm (the Triumph spits 68 at 9,200 rpm), the Brutale 675 takes over the tubular steel frame with aluminum plates from the F3 675. And its peripherals are hardly less advanced: braking is entrusted to Brembo radial calipers and damping to Marzocchi (front) and Sachs (rear).

In order to contain costs, MV Agusta has however chosen less prestigious elements: the inverted 43 mm fork is not adjustable and the mono-shock absorber can only be adjusted in preload.. 

Light (163 kg dry according to MV), this Brutale 675 has a wheelbase similar to the F3 675 (1380 mm) and a fuel tank with a capacity of 17.5 liters. Values ​​once again very close to those of the Street Triple (167 kg dry, 1410 mm and 17.4 liters)…

On the other hand, where this transalpine novelty clearly differs from its English rival – and from its other competitors! -, it is in the chapter of electronic equipment: the Brutale 675 indeed becomes the first roadster of medium displacement to propose as standard an anti-skating configurable on eight levels !

Equipped with MVICS (Motor & Vehicle Integrated Control System) electronic management recently discovered on the F3 675, the Brutale 675 has a Ride By Wire-type wireless accelerator and offers no less than five injection maps: four selectable at the left stalk and one last that you can configure as you wish !

With regard to the very – too much? – tempting price promised by MV Agusta (€ 8,990 in Italy in March 2012), so much sophistication and engineering (the crankshaft is counter-rotating and the cassette box as on the MotoGP M1!) are also something to leave you wondering…

Because for once, at only a little over 1000 € more than a Street Triple, this Brutale 675 and its stunning technical sheet would seem almost "too good to be honest" … To be followed closely on Site: stay tuned !
