Motorcycle news 2016: Triumph’s greatest classics
As expected, Triumph has just released the first info, photos and video of its 2016 Modern Classic range. Five new motorcycles are presented: two Bonneville T120s and two Thruxton 1200 cc as well as a Street Twin 900 cc. To us the fat English !
Thruxton 1200, Thruxton R and Thruxton kite
Closely derived from the all-new T120, the Thruxton is still the sporty counterpart of the Bonneville. As proof, in this version the new Twin 1200 delivers a slightly higher torque: "112 Nm at just 4,950 rpm, an increase of 62% compared to the previous generation", say its designers.
More muscular than the Bonnie, the Hinckley cafe racer is also more efficient in the winding thanks to "sporty ergonomics, bracelet handlebars, fully adjustable suspension and a 17-inch front wheel", underlines Triumph in its argument.
With the same assistance as the T120 (ABS, traction control, and anti-slip clutch), the Thruxton benefits in addition to the "Road" and "Rain" driving modes from an exclusive "Sport" which would provide "more immediate throttle response".
More demonstrative and responsive, the water mill (yes, yes!) Is also more communicative: "a new pair of upwardly curved exhaust pipes extended by conical silencers makes it possible to compose this serious and shattering sound in harmony with the imposing presence and performance of the machine"… Vroom, vroom!
If the Thruxton retains LED lights, the USB socket and the Bonnie coded key, it does not include the heated grips (available only as an option). Unlike the "standard" Thruxton, the "R" version cannot be fitted with cruise control … But it has other advantages !
German in the viewfinder…
Indeed, the unprecedented – but not entirely ignored – Thruxton R hosts a host of components, each more prestigious than the next, which should further increase the road capabilities – almost tracked – of the Triumph. !
On the "R" menu: Brembo double floating disc with matching monobloc calipers and master cylinder, Showa fork "fully adjustable large diameter competition", fully adjustable Ohlins double rear shock absorber and Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa tires.
And for those who really want to attack on the track – "closed"be careful, not on the open road! -, the English even plan to market a"Factory Race kit that will take engine performance to the next level by offering more power, more torque and more lightness". Broaaa, broaaa !
Two other kits wiser and approved for the road will also be offered. The "Cafe racer", first of all, will include a rear fender removal kit with compact light, Vance & Hines exhausts, a painted seat backrest (fitted as standard on the "R"), guards. knees and a leather tank strap. The "Track racer" kit will add to this endowment a profiled cockpit and low waist strap handlebars.
Clearly, BMW’s R nineT will find someone to talk to in 2016 and Site is already salivating at the idea of opposing these two (top) neo-sportivo-retro models … dear, so yes, we have to fear it ! The prices of the new Thruxton have not yet been revealed, nor their release dates and full technical sheets: stay tuned !
In the meantime, MNC readers are invited to turn this page to discover the fifth novelty of the 2016 Triumph Modern Classic range: the Street Twin !
