More horses and more comfort

Aesthetically, the Tuono V4R 2014 does not differ from the previous vintage (read in particular our). Too bad, one would be tempted to write, so much the agreement between the tortured forms of its front part and its delicate back shell lacks – to our taste – of coherence.

Technically too, this RSV4 "undressed" retains almost identical all its attributes: inserted in a shoehorn in a superb aluminum perimeter frame, its 4-cylinder V at 65 ° of 999.6 cc is naturally preserved. And that’s good, so much the V4 is posed as a real factory sensations: relatively flexible and torquey, it takes its turns without downtime with a unique cavernous sound !

For 2014, however, it adopts a few improvements (reduced friction, improved cooling, new design of the exhaust, re-parameterised injection) which allow it to increase its power from 167.3 hp to 170 hp. The maximum torque value remains fixed at 111.5 Nm.

On the chassis side, the changes mainly affect the front axle, on which are added a new fully adjustable Sachs 43 mm fork and Brembo M432 monobloc radial brake calipers. At the rear, the Sachs monoshock is identical to the previous one and can also be adjusted for preload, rebound and compression. Noale engineers claim to have refined the general setting of the suspensions so that they are "more comfortable on the road".

At the cutting edge of progress

The on-board electronic aids battery, supplied as standard on the Tuono V4R, receives several modifications aimed at improving its operation: the ride-by-wire cable-free accelerator has in particular been retouched for more convenience and the anti-wheeling – adjustable in three positions – has been recalibrated for a less intrusive action.

The three engine maps (track, sport and road) have also undergone modifications to match the slight increase in power of the V4.

As a reminder, the Aprilia Performance Ride Control (APRC) installed as standard on the Tuono V4R also contains a shifter, starting assistance and excellent traction control configurable on eight levels. Connected to a multitude of sensors – including two gyroscopes -, this is one of the rare systems that can be adjusted while driving, by pressing the left stalk.

Finally, like the previous model, the Tuono V4R 2014 adopts an adjustable and disconnectable ABS as standard. Named "9MP", this device has three levels of intensity (circuit, road and rain), while its action varies depending on the engine mapping engaged. This second generation of sports ABS developed by Bosch also has a coupling function to prevent detachment of the rear wheel during hard braking..

In terms of practical improvements, the saddle of the bike would be more padded and the capacity of the tank goes from 17 liters to 18.5 liters: two good news compared to the discomfort and the limited autonomy due to gluttony (more of 7.5l / 100 km measured by MNC in sporty driving) of the previous model !

Advertised at 185 kg dry (without battery or fluids), Aprilia Tuono V4R 2014 is available in black or white and comes standard with the APRC electronic aids pack and ABS. It is already available in concessions at a price of 13,999 euros.
