News - New American motorcycles: Motus MST and MST-R - Used MOTUS

While the production of American series motorcycles generally revolves around generous twin cylinders responsible for propelling more or less flashy customs, it will now be necessary to rely on Motus Motorcycles, a brand new manufacturer based in Birmingham (Alabama-USA).

While the production of American series motorcycles generally revolves around generous twin cylinders responsible for propelling more or less flashy customs, it will now be necessary to rely on Motus Motorcycles, a brand new manufacturer based in Birmingham (Alabama-USA).

Because this newcomer to the two-wheeler market goes very far from the beaten track with its unexpected Sport-GT equipped with a 4-cylinder V at 90 ° (the Motus MST) and its roadster version, the Motus MST-R !

Developed in the greatest secrecy since 2009, these American are now at a sufficiently advanced stage for the founders of the brand (Lee Conn and Brian Case) to lift the veil on their technical aspects….

However, for a brand born in a country where drag your feet forward "cruiser" is almost the only way to understand the motorcycle, the technological choices are breathtaking: developed with Katech Engines (an engine manufacturer known for its preparations on Corvette V8s), the engine is a new 161 hp V4 installed transversely in a tubular trellis frame !

KMV4 engine: 1645 cc, 161 hp and 165 Nm of torque !

Cubing 1645 cc, this piece of goldsmith’s work compressed to 11.5: 1 would develop some 165 Nm of torque. It also embeds a direct injection feed which allows finer management of the precious "air-gasoline" mixture..

Boasting "tons of torque over a wide rev range" and "rock-solid reliability" according to its designers, this water-cooled block called "KMV4" has an exhilarating sound, close to that of V8 muscle cars. American (see the video presentation of MST and MST-R below).

Motus MST, the anti VFR 1200 ?

Claiming Sport-GT status, the Motus MST tackles a somewhat enveloping composite half-fairing, aluminum rims, a 22.7-liter fuel tank, a saddle placed at 787mm high … and a general line that does not really shine by its aesthetic originality !

On the other hand, lovers of comfort will appreciate the presence of rigid suitcases and an adjustable windshield, while the more sporty will note with interest the measurements contained in the beast: 1473 mm of wheelbase, 26 ° of hunting angle and 227 kg dry.

Clearly focused on the sport-touring "dynamic" version, the Motus MST exhibits a fully adjustable 43mm inverted fork, an adjustable preload monoshock and 320mm petal discs clamped by four-piston monobloc calipers with mounting radial.

The production beginnings of this Motus MST are announced for 2011 at an undisclosed price, nor the technical characteristics of the MST-R (the roadster version visible on the video below).

It remains to be hoped that this interesting initiative crosses the American borders so that these atypical Motus motorcycles can rekindle the torch of exoticism and "Made in USA" sport: a flame extinguished since the regrettable October 2009…
