Honda has just announced the price, availability and technical characteristics of its new Africa Twin CRF1000L ABS, unveiled as a prototype in Milan this fall. In France, the new Africa Twin will be available in ABS version and in ABS / DCT (double clutch) version.
As we indicated in May (read), the CRF 1000L ABS will be priced at 12,999 euros turnkey, while its DCT version will be offered at 13,999 euros turnkey..
Honda claims to have developed a "new ultralight frame to guarantee top-quality off-road performance, exemplary comfort on the road and agile behavior on a daily basis" and new developments in its DCT double-clutch transmission. The ABS is disconnectable and a multimode traction control system should allow "optimal grip on and off road".
The new Africa Twin in DCT version |
The CRF1000L Africa Twin version ABS / DCT offers the now classic double clutch transmission using the same crankcases as the "manual" version, which means that the DCT version is not wider than the classic version..
The DCT system will offer the standard manual mode – which allows you to change gears using a control located on the left handlebar – and two automatic modes: "mode D offers the best ratio between driving comfort and fuel consumption, while mode S – including the programming has been revised for more performance – offers the choice between three sub-maps: S1, S2 and S3 ", develops Honda. In off-road conditions, the Africa Twin’s DCT offers a specific "G" control (on the right of the instrumentation) which in any mode allows "to optimize the traction and the control of the machine in limiting clutch slippage during gear changes ". Finally, among the other evolutions brought to this new generation of DCT, we will note the adoption of an inclination detector which conditions the changes of reports to the angle of the motorcycle, in order to "maintain optimal control in all piloting conditions ". |
On the engine side, the CRF1000L’s 998 cm3 in-line twin cylinder set at 270 ° benefits from the same Unicam design for its ultra-compact 2×4-valve cylinder head. The lightened camshaft uses "the same material as that of CBR10000RR Fireblade and two spark plugs are responsible for igniting the mixture in each combustion chamber", specifies the manufacturer.
Suspension is provided at the front by a Showa inverted fork with "fully adjustable" long travel and at the rear by a Showa single shock absorber adjustable in preload. The HSTC (Honda Selectable Torque Control) torque control system offers three levels of intervention and the rider can disconnect the ABS on the rear wheel.
The new Africa Twin will be available in four colors: silver, black, tricolor (+300 €) and Rally (+300 €).
