New Honda CRF250R and CRF450R motocross 2014
After concentrating its efforts on the CRF450R in 2013, Honda is continuing its offensive in the motocross segment by thoroughly overhauling the 2014 CRF250R. On the program: many of the improvements discovered on the 450 last year (read our Presentation of the Honda CRF 2013).
After having concentrated its efforts on the, Honda continues its offensive on the motocross segment by completely overhauling the 2014 CRF250R. On the program: many of the improvements discovered on the 450 last year (read our).
2014 CRF250R: what‘s changing
Unsurprisingly, the new 2014 Honda CRF250R takes over the sixth generation aluminum double-beam chassis discovered in 2013 on the CRF450R, one of the main characteristics of which is to lower the center of gravity via a junction point between the steering and side members placed lower.
This frame is also lighter – only 9.35 kg -, which "frames" (!) Perfectly with the efforts made by the winged crest to contain the full weight under the 106 kg bar (105.7 kg exactly ).
With this in mind, the radiators are both lighter and better integrated, which does not spoil anything! The suspensions also undergo notable changes: the Showa Pro-Link shock absorber, shorter, receives new settings and takes place on a more rigid swingarm..
The 48 mm fork – completely revised in 2013 – for its part introduces new calibrations to meet the needs of the new frame. On the engine side, the 249cc 4-stroke single cylinder did not undergo any major changes, but saw its operation improve by small touches: its compression ratio increased (from 13.2: 1 to 13.5: 1), ‘intakes and exhausts are redesigned and the injection has been recalibrated and improved. Finally, the gearbox is announced as more resistant.
2014 CRF250R: what’s changing
As for the Honda CRF450R 2014, the changes are lighter: logical, since it has already done. In terms of the cycle part, this 2014 vintage is therefore very close to the old model, with the exception of the Kayaba oleopneumatic fork (air-oil) which uses new parts (pistons and rods in particular) in order to improve oil flow.
The 449.7cc Unicam 4-stroke single-cylinder (single camshaft) mainly evolves in the intake and exhaust ducts, which Honda has redesigned to increase performance at low and mid-range.
Finally, the injection benefits from a small update, just like the double exhaust and the clutch which inherits lightened springs. Enough to allow it to remain "the best-selling MX 450 in Europe", as Honda proudly states. ?
As every year with the Honda cross-country novelties, the new CRF250R and CRF450R should be available around September-October 2013 (in red and white only), at a price still unknown..
