News - New MV Agusta F3: aspen, Daytona 675! - Second hand MV AGUSTA

For the second year in a row, MV Agusta monopolized the attention of sports motorcycle enthusiasts at the EICMA show in Milan: after the splendid F4 1000R, MV Agusta created the event with its F3, a Supersport powered by a 675 three-cylinder engine. CC !

Announced in September (read in particular), the Supersport MV Agusta finally showed the end of its delightful face at the 2010 Milan EICMA Motorcycle Show !

For the Varese manufacturer, the event is such that on the vast MV Agusta stand, only this F3 was exhibited inside a case made of white sheets. As Claudio Rizzotto, sports and press relations manager for the brand for French-speaking countries, emphasizes: "there was no question of putting even an eraser next to our F3"(see our video interview opposite top right).

A fairly daring and ultimately very Latin staging, but which hits the mark as the price per m2 in international shows usually encourages manufacturers to fit in their entire range, even if it means creating a real "Tetris" of more or less models recent !

Alone on its podium (with the inevitable hostess with a glowing look!), The Italian Supersport is showing off in the traditional red and silver dress dear to the brand: the bike is incredibly thin and its ultra-short triple tailpipe only reinforces this feeling of compactness.

Directly inspired by the pencil stroke inaugurated on the F4 1000R at the same location the previous year (read our), this F3 has fluid lines and a crazy class, from its sumptuous single-sided arm to its oblong headlight, including its chassis mixing tubular trellis in steel and aluminum plates.

Like its big sister, it naturally calls upon prestigious components: fully adjustable Marzocchi inverted fork, Brembo radial brake discs and calipers. On the other hand, the presence of a Sachs shock absorber and a Nissin radial master cylinder shows that the Italians now know how to use pragmatism to rationalize costs..

A considerable step forward, as the ostentatious profusion of luxurious elements on the MV Agusta has so far limited their success to a niche made up of rich enthusiasts capable, for example, of paying 100,000 euros for a 1080 cc F4.

MV Agusta and the three-cylinder

Of the 37 world titles acquired by the brand in speed, no less than ten are to the credit of machines powered by a three-cylinder. Available in 350 cc then in 500 cc, the three-legged MV notably enabled a certain Giacomo Agostini to forge his legend in Grand Prix from the mid-1960s. This architecture was also used in the 1970s by Kawasaki ( H1 and H2) and Aprilia in MotoGP. On the other hand, if MV tries today to reclaim the concept, only Triumph and Benelli have persevered with the three-cylinder in-line, where the modern production of MV Agusta has long been associated with four-cylinder in-line.

Obviously, everything is a question of measurements and from there to subcontract the chassis or the engine to an obscure loop in Asia, there is a step: the opening to new markets must be done while respecting the heritage of the "Meccanica Verghera Agusta" to maintain its legitimacy. In this spirit, the F3 is equipped with a three-cylinder in-line, an architecture used successfully on the racing machines of Count Agusta in the 70s (see box opposite).

According to the brand’s officials, this engine would be "the shortest, narrowest and most compact in its class". At Site, what we especially notice is that with its displacement of 675 cc, this" tri-leg "is the mill that most resembles that of the Triumph Daytona 675 (read in particular our).

To differentiate itself from it, the F3 claims a degree of sophistication never reached in the Supersport category: cable-free Ride-by-Wire type accelerator – as on the Yamaha R6s -, configurable injection maps and especially a baptized traction control MV TC (MV Traction Control). A device that is only just beginning to become widespread on the most modern and powerful Hypersports !

The presence of this new equipment on a mid-capacity sports car is explained by the power developed by the Italian engine: although MV Agusta is keen to keep almost all of the technical specifications secret, Claudio Rizzotto has confirmed that the F3 will produce 144 hp. … i.e. 15 hp more than the most powerful Superport (the Yamaha YZF-R6), 16 more than the Triumph and only 5 less than a GSX-R 750 !

The torque of this engine remains unknown to this day, as does the precise weight of the motorcycle: our interlocutor assures us, however, that it would be located just under the bar of 170 kg dry (162 kg for the Daytona)..

As for the price, MV Agusta managers place it in a range going from 11,500 to 12,000 euros: a well-placed price (11,320 euros for the Triumph and 12,399 euros for the Yamaha) for this new 2011 product which should arrive in the near future. end of 2011.

Finally, happiness never comes alone, MV Agusta has confirmed the launch of a roadster version of this F3 in 2012, just to tackle the Triumph Street Triple this time! And just before the arrival of this "B3", the Brutale four-cylinder family will grow with the Brutalina, a less luxurious version of the explosive sports roadster MV sold for 12,000 euros !
