After, it’s Yamaha’s turn to "pre-present" the prototypes of motorcycles, scooters and bicycles (!) Which will be unveiled in three days at the, the national show of the four Japanese manufacturers..

XV950 Bolt Cafe Racer: one concept, multiple outlets !

Unlike in some years, visitors will be able to admire real novelties and very concrete projects at the Tokyo Motorcycle Show, and not more or less successful and sometimes delusional concepts as has been the case in the past..

Yamaha will thus exhibit a very beautiful preparation in the spirit of cafe racer designed on the basis of its new XV950R, also known as the Bolt (read our).

Simply named XV 950 Bolt Cafe Racer, this bike is technically identical to the "R" version of the Japanese boober: the 942 cc V-twin, the double steel cradle frame, the belt drive or even the Ohlins separate cylinder suspensions are the same as on the production model.

In order to "cafe-raceriser", the manufacturer of Iwata transferred the two typical custom seats, replaced the enveloping fender with a straight and shorter model and installed a rounded rear shell which accommodates a very beautiful single-seater in brown leather. A number plate on the sides, half-handlebars bracelets with mirrors mounted downwards and gussets on the fork’s dip tubes complete this quite simple transformation..

A simplicity that raises questions about the possibility of seeing this project lead to something concrete, such as a limited series for example … "This concept shows how owners can adapt and customize their motorcycle, according to their own tastes" , replies Yamaha. In a way, it is therefore a matter of clearing the ground and providing ideas that are easily reproducible – both technically and financially….

Is finally a clever way to encourage future owners of Bolt XV950 to dig into the thick catalog of accessories designed for this bike and in which Yamaha has recently added air filter covers, Akrapovic mufflers, wire wheels , handlebars, custom saddles, forward control kits, etc. Or how Yamaha is inspired by the proven recipes of a certain American manufacturer of customs based in Milwaukee !

Electric prototypes PES1, PED1, Evino, Ekids and YPJ-01 Epsilon

Yamaha Motor Corporation will also exhibit several electric prototypes in Tokyo, including a roadster with futuristic lines and an all-terrain motorcycle powered by lithium-ion batteries with automatic or manual transmission. Designated under the names PES1 and PED1, these motorcycles are distinguished by their advertised very low weight: "less than 100 kg" for the road model and "less than 85 kg" for the motocross.

The Evino electric scooter, an urban model with retro lines, will be installed right next to it and will highlight its removable battery, road holding announced "excellent" and acceleration "very smooth"…

Finally, the manufacturer in tuning forks will unveil an electric motocross concept for children, the Ekids, one of the main advantages of which would be to be able to be transported by car without risk of dirtying the interior with gasoline or oil !

Yamaha has not communicated any information relating to the possible commercialization of these electric models which will probably remain in the state of prototypes, until the manufacturer launches more seriously into the "two-wheeled battery"…

On the other hand, the prototype YPJ-01 Epsilon Project 01 electrically-assisted racing bike could experience a faster market, as cyclists’ interest in pedelecs is growing..

During the various European bike fairs, notably the Eurobike in Germany or the Paris Cycle Show, almost every manufacturer exhibited an electric mountain bike or racing bike, while some mountain stations where mountain biking has la cote have recently offered pedelecs for hire and dedicated courses.

Yamaha therefore reminds for all intents and purposes that the brand is celebrating 20 years of activity in the field of electric bikes this year. !
