Site readers – who, as everyone knows, are a little more fortunate than the others – have already been able to follow the World Supersport 2019 race in Portimao almost live on Sunday, won by Federico Caricasulo in front of his teammate Randy Krummenacher and the French Lucas Mahias after an interruption on the 13th lap (out of 18), following the engine failure of Raffaele de Rosa’s MV Agusta … which had been losing oil for two laps !
- WSSP Portugal : Caricasulo, happy winner under the red flag
The main animators of the Portuguese Supersport race are expressed below. - MNC special file :
End of world crown hopes on the other hand for Lucas Mahias, now relegated to 95 points behind the leader with three races to go (France, Argentina and Qatar) … Jules Cluzel, 3rd at 48 points from Krummenacher, remains mathematically in the race in the title but will have to benefit from a helping hand from fate to catch up !
Federico Caricasulo (Yamaha n ° 64), 1st
"I was expecting this kind of race, where I would have to face my teammate and Mahias. The red flag unfortunately ended the event prematurely, but I could have won nonetheless without this interruption: it’s like That … We now look to the last three tough rounds, but I approach them calmly and calmly because I can fight for the positions that matter. I want to thank the team who once again did a fantastic job here. ".
Randy Krummenacher (Yamaha n ° 21), 2nd
"We couldn’t win, but we can be happy with this second place because we have saved a difficult weekend since Friday. In the race, my only mistake is letting Federico take the lead thinking I can beat him at the end. An unexpected red flag then came and turned everything upside down. Congratulations to him because he did a great job. For my part, I’m happy with the second place, especially as I felt good on the bike and that I had a little more than all my rivals … Now we are going to Magny-Cours to win. Thank you to the team who did an exceptional job ".
Lucas Mahias (Kawasaki n ° 44), 3rd
"I don’t know if we could have done better than this third place (for the 3rd time in three races, editor’s note), because I pushed to the maximum during the race and it was difficult to overtake. I tried to managing my tires but preserving the front in these conditions was impossible. To get back on the first two I had to push really hard on my front tire in the slow corners so I’m not sure how the last one could have gone tower…"
“It was a strange race, where I gave my best from the first to the last lap. I didn’t take part in the tests here two weeks ago, so the start of the weekend was tough. I’m happy – for my mechanics and I – because it was easy to make lots of excuses after the first day and then finish lower. But the team pushed all weekend and that’s because we have pushed to the limit that we are on the podium ".
Jules Cluzel (Yamaha n ° 16), 4th
“It was possible to do a lot better than 4th place this weekend in Portimao. We lacked ease at the start of the last corner, forcing me to fill the gap every lap. When I managed to reach the leading group, I received oil on the helmet and the bubble (his motorcycle returned to the box "covered with oil" reports his team manager Christophe Guyot, Editor’s note!). But I managed not to fall and it is now time to think about Magny-Cours, where I hope to shine in front of our audience ".
Ayrton Badovini (Kawasaki n ° 86), 5th
"I got the same result as in Imola (Italy, Editor’s note) with this fifth place, but it was not the same kind of race. Here we were fast from day one and during the race I felt good . However, we needed something more to fight ahead, especially the first two laps. I think we can start to be close to the first drivers in every race. The test done here has helped me and the new parts on the bike can also help me too. We started to improve the bike and that changes everything, it’s really nice! It’s the first time that I was able to stay close to the leaders the whole race. "
Corentin Perolari (Yamaha n ° 94, 6th)
"I am torn between joy and disappointment. It is certainly my best race, but it was possible to do even better this weekend. I had the pace ahead, I am sure I find myself finally, with this energy that defines me so much. I can’t wait to be at Magny-Cours, to achieve the result that we all expect ".
Next race from September 27 to 29, on the Nevers Magny-Cours circuit (France). To be continued on MNC: stay connected !
