Euro 4 standards precipitate end of career for several Suzuki motorcycles
Euro4 standards mark the end of the career of many motorcycles – notably at Kawasaki, KTM or Yamaha – whose too old design or low sales volume do not allow an upgrade. Suzuki does not cut it and the Bandit GSX650 F and Inazuma 250 leave the catalog, probably soon followed by other models.
Euro4 standards mark the end of the career of many motorcycles – especially at, or – whose too old design or low sales volume does not allow an upgrade. Suzuki does not cut it and them and leave the catalog, probably soon followed by other models.
The end of the Bandit saga ?
According to our information, the large 1255 cc water-cooled 4-cylinder from the Bandit 1250 range will also not benefit from the modifications allowing it to be brought into conformity with Euro4, causing de facto the imminent disappearance of the last two motorcycles using it in the current range: the road and the semi-faired version Bandit 1250S, .
The roadster versions of the Bandit having already surrendered (first the, then the), the emblematic Bandit saga could therefore simply die out, and even quite quickly since the Euro 4 standard will be imposed on all new motorcycles. January 1, 2017.
"We prefer to concentrate in the future on more recent engines and platforms like that of", explains to MNC Dominique Li-Pat-Yuen, marketing and communication manager of the French subsidiary, confirming to us that the "B12" are actually at the end of a career.
Another motorcycle fatally impacted by the upgrading: the cult VanVan 125 and its, whose air single cylinder does not meet the new standards. Despite its image of a very popular "sand bike" with its large studded tires, the VanVan must necessarily evolve in depth to tackle the Euro4 turn. However, everything seems to indicate that this will not be the case…
"We have not placed any new orders for this model," Suzuki France replied cautiously, carefully avoiding to rule on the probable end of the VanVan’s journey. But the confirmation of the lack of orders for the coming season is enough to get the message across: the VanVan is most likely living its last year of presence in .
The glass half empty or half full ?
Depending on whether you look at things in a positive or negative way, the disappearance of these motorcycles in the Suzuki range – and probably also of scooters, like the older Burgman – can be interpreted in different ways: some will be happy for example of the business to be carried out on the stocks of all these motorcycles to be sold.
Others, on the other hand, will be worried about this massive "undressing" of the Suzuki motorcycle offer, already lacking renewal and new products in recent years..
No alarmism however: Hamamatsu’s coat of arms certainly plans to fill in the gaps with new products, no doubt to be discovered this fall during the motorcycle shows..
A completely streamlined version of the GSX-S would, for example, be an interesting replacement for the Bandit 1250 – provided it goes further towards comfort than the -, thanks to its excellent GSX-R1000 engine and its frankly successful cycle part..
And why not a VanVan 650 ?
Moreover, MNC has long dreamed of a mid-size VanVan, keeping the same look as the current version but with a 500 to 700 cc engine … Why not, for example, with the very punchy V-twin 650 cc recently updated on the ?
Such a motorcycle would constitute in our eyes a brilliant alternative to the Ducati Scrambler, firmly anchoring Suzuki in the "neo-retro" trend and its parallels with the world of surfing carefully cultivated by certain manufacturers and events such as the .
Asked about this possible "VanVan 650", Dominique Li-Pat-Yuen did not remain insensitive to our arguments … but is absolutely unable to confirm the existence of this project in the boxes of Japanese engineers…
Too bad, because Suzuki already has with the VanVan the aesthetic basis (round headlight, high exhaust, notched tires, flat saddle, raised handlebars) and the legitimacy to rush into the "Scrambler" breach..
"On the other hand, new versions are coming on the basis of the SV650, including the Cafe Racer and Yoshimura Edition versions, as well as a Scrambler version, precisely", reminds us the marketing manager. !
In other words, MNC and its readers just have to stay connected to discover the means used by Suzuki to surprise us: with the imminent arrival of the new GSX-R1000 and its 4-cylinder with variable valve timing, all that s rather promising announcement !
