Qatar MotoGP Grand Prix held in Losail until 2031

The Qatar GP, the only MotoGP race contested at night, will continue to take place on the Losail international circuit until 2031 (!) Following a five-year extension signed Thursday between the organizers of the Qatari round and the promoter Dorna. Explanations.

This long extension comes before the start of the season, which has been taking place on the Middle East track ever since. This unique feature, which has never been imitated until now, is however not without its problems: some MotoGP riders would like to advance the start time – scheduled for Sunday at 6:00 p.m. French time, or 8:00 p.m. at Losail – to benefit from less cool conditions…. 

Among them Jorge Lorenzo, who went to the mat at high speed in the same time slot during the previous tests at Losail. The case of the new Honda-Repsol representative is not isolated: many riders fell during the last hour of testing due to the arrival of humidity, including Johann Zarco.

Not enough, however, to call into question the holding of the Grand Prix of Qatar in Losail, whose contract with Dorna already ran until 2026 before this five-year extension!
