2017 Moto2 Japanese GP Report and Results
Alex Marquez signs at the Twin Ring Motegi his third victory of the Moto2 season ahead of Xavi Vierge and Hafizh Syahrin, still there in the wet. The two main protagonists for the title, Franco Morbidelli and Tom Luthi, finish in 8th and 11th positions respectively. MNC summary and results.
Takaaki Nakagami transformed his pole position into a holeshot on the still wet Motegi track ahead of Xavi Vierge, Alex Marquez and Mattia Pasini. The start is given for a race shortened to 15 laps, following the long cleaning of the bitumen operated this morning after an oil leak during the Moto3 wam-up.

Championship leader Franco Morbidelli finished the first round in 12th place, while his first rival for the title Tom Luthi – located at 21 lengths – crossed the line in 7th place. But the Swiss made several mistakes and lost some positions, while Morbidelli managed on the contrary to gain some.
The two main protagonists for the title – Oliveira, 3rd, lagged behind – found themselves wheel to wheel and Franco Morbidelli wasted no time in gaining the advantage over Tom Luthi with 10 laps to go. The Italian-Brazilian (Morbidelli’s father is Italian, his mother Brazilian) is in 8th place behind Miguel Oliveira’s KTM.
Alex Marquez overtakes Nakagami with 5 laps to go, and escapes stomach to the ground towards victory. The Spaniard, injured in the hip two races ago, was immediately imitated by Xavi Vierge and Hafizh Syahrin who relegated Nakagami to 4th place. As in every Grand Prix contested in the rain, "The fish" Syahrin has an extraordinary race.
Alex Marquez established his domination by setting the best time on the final lap to sign his third victory of the season ahead of the Mistral Tech3 of Xavi Vierge and the Kalex Hafizh Syahrin. A little nervous about the title challenge, Franco Morbidelli finished 8th while his rival Luthi finished 11th.
Moto2 championship record
Despite his mixed results, Franco Morbidelli left Japan with a few more points ahead of his rivals: his lead over Thomas Luthi went to 24 points and 76 points over Alex Marquez, who stole thanks to his victory in third place of the provisional classification to Miguel Oliveira. Fabio Quartararo, 19th at 42 seconds at Motegi, is 17th in the world championship with three races to go (Phillip Island, Sepang and Valence).
