2017 MotoGP Valencia GP report and results (Marquez titled)
And six! Marc Marquez is 24 years old his sixth world crown in Grand Prix, including four won in MotoGP on five attempts! Honda official Repsol did not spare himself during the final in Valencia, however, finishing third behind Pedrosa and Zarco while Dovizioso’s hopes soared in a crash. Report, results and rankings.
What a Valencia Grand Prix! What a 2017 world championship! This last MotoGP race of the season on the narrow circuit of Valencia defeated all predictions: neither Marc Marquez – leader with 21 points in advance in approaching this final – nor Andrea Dovizisio finished in the positions envisaged, while Dani Pedrosa surprised all the world by winning at the finish !
- Valencia GP –
This 18th round of the championship, however, started in a fairly normal way: after a superb start and several laps in the lead, Marc Marquez let pass a Johann Zarco determined to go and win his first MotoGP victory, the first success of a French rider. in the premier category since that of Regis Laconi on the same circuit of Valence in 1999…
For the last time in 2017… LET BATTLE BEGINS!!!

Behind, Dani Pedrosa was placed in the position of observer while the members of the official Ducati team tore their hair in their box when they saw lap after lap Dovizioso lose ground on the leaders while remaining in the wake of Lorenzo. Despite incessant messages sent to Lorenzo so that he let Dovi pass via his panel on the pit lane and his dashboard, the Mallorcan did not erase himself….

Probably in his head, Lorenzo does not think he has to do it: as long as Marquez does not make a mistake, Dovizioso mathematically has no chance of being titled. Jorge Lorenzo, calculator, no doubt believes that he can continue his race as if nothing had happened as long as the situation does not change. Not necessarily a very sporty attitude, but logical…
Marquez makes up for it … not Dovizioso !
Except that suddenly, the incredible happens: Marquez raises his voice, takes over the leadership from Zarco … and immediately sets off on yet another slide forward! Fortunately, thanks to his incredible balancing skills, the Honda official catches up with the disaster with his left elbow (!), Goes out at high speed in the gravel (!!) and resumes the race in 5th place (!!!) . Manage the title without taking any risks? Not for Marc Marquez !
DRAMA !!! Marquez runs on at turn one after a MASSSSSSIVE save!
He joins in 5th!

"I braked too late, I had lost my concentration," he said as he hit the scary 27 total this weekend this season after falling twice during practice. Valencia GP !
Spectators and observers barely have time to recover from this episode when attention is drawn by two red spots in the gravel: in turn, Jorge Lorenzo then Andrea Dovizioso have fallen and must give up! "Dovi" lost the front end after too much braking, just after his team-mate also made a mistake.
GAME OVER! is down!
The Championship is all but over! !
– MotoGP ™ (@MotoGP)
The title therefore definitely escapes Andrea Dovizioso, clearly tense and not sharp enough during this race: on this circuit which he does not appreciate and which rarely smiles at Ducati, "Dovi" delivered before his fall a too defensive race whereas his position in the championship forced him to take all the risks.

After these successive twists and turns, the victory was finally played between Dani Pedrosa and Johann Zarco, returned to the helm after the incredible gap of Marquez. More consistent in the last laps, "Pedro" took advantage of his choice of a harder rear tire ().
Thanks to a manly attack and judiciously placed on the last lap, the n ° 26 managed to get the best of the Tech3 driver who could not respond. Dani Pedrosa precedes Yamaha Tech3 rookie by 0.337 seconds under the checkered flag with a perfectly completed final lap.
"I really felt that I could win the race, but Dani was smart: he stuck me well by passing me", explains Johann Zarco who spent 25 laps out of 30 in the lead of the race! "I lost meters that I couldn’t catch up, even though I was stronger under braking. But I’m happy because I wanted to fight for the win and I did.".
- Valencia GP :
Third at 10.861 sec, Marc Marquez completed the podium ahead of the astonishing Alex Rins, who ended his first MotoGP season in a very good way. Newbie Suzuki precedes Valentino Rossi, who never got to join in the fight for the podium. His teammate, Maverick Viñales, simply sank in Valencia: qualified 14th, the one who was designated as favorite for the title last winter finished 12th between Smith and Petrucci !
For his last MotoGP race on the Ducati Avintia, Loris Baz took 16th place, the penultimate position since 17 riders are at the finish of this race which caused significant damage: besides Lorenzo and the unfortunate Dovizioso – who really chose the wrong moment to fall, he who had only fallen five times this season, including practice sessions and races -, Pol Espargaro, Sam Lowes, Alvaro Bautista, Scott Redding and Mika Kallio left for the fault.
Michael Van der Marck, replacing Jonas Folger at Tech3, finishes last 52.134 seconds behind the winner.
The results of the MotoGP championship 2017
"I want to congratulate Dovi", slips Marc Marquez as soon as he got off his bike. The HRC official, smiling like a kid, caps his sixth world crown (including 4 in MotoGP) with the communicative good humor that characterizes him !

"It’s amazing, I was hoping to have a ‘normal’ run … but nothing is ever normal with me!" Marquez admits after rolling a dice that falls on the six – like his number of wins this year and of world titles in his career – during his celebration in front of the Spanish public. "I wanted to brake very hard to make sure that Johann didn’t overtake me, but I braked too late: I managed to straighten the bike, but I don’t know how!"
Another save from during his celebrations
– MotoGP ™ (@MotoGP)
"We are human beings, I feel the stress and the pressure: it is not because I smile all the time that I am permeable," admits this enormous champion with a disarming frankness. This is all the more remarkable since he could claim the opposite without anyone finding fault: who would dare to question the word of a driver who has won the supreme title four times in the past five seasons? in MotoGP ?! Who would have the nerve to question the talent of the youngest driver in history, titled six times ?!
Six successful stories!
– Repsol Honda Team (@HRC_MotoGP)
In the world championship, the n ° 93 finished with 296 points scored against 261 for Andrea Dovizioso, with whom Marquez shares the same number of victories this season (6) .Maverick Viñales, out of play for the title from the second part of season, ends his first campaign at Yamaha in a disappointing third place with 68 lengths behind leader.
"This was clearly not the position we were aiming for," he admits with undisguised annoyance. And when asked about the possible solutions to the motor skills problems encountered on his M1, which weighed on his season and that of Rossi, the young Spaniard gets annoyed: "ask Yamaha!"….

Dani Pedrosa appears in 4th place overall thanks to his victory in Valencia, his second this season after that of Jerez. The Spanish tax Valentino Rossi on the wire, for only two small points after 18 hard-fought races (210 points against 208) !
For Yamaha – which saves second place in the constructors’ standings by only 11 points ahead of Ducati, Suzuki, KTM and Aprilia – this is one of the worst seasons in MotoGP for almost ten years: an official Yamaha rider had won always ranked first or second overall since 2008 (date of Lorenzo‘s arrival), including five times with the title in his pocket (2008, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2015)! Far, far from the results obtained this season: Viñales has only three victories (at the start of the season) and Rossi only one.
The double Moto2 world champion Johann Zarco offers himself the immense satisfaction of finishing his first MotoGP season in 6th place, first private rider in the general classification with 37 points ahead of Jorge Lorenzo on his official Ducati and the excellent Danilo Petrucci. The Habs ended their season with a bang with second place in Valence, matching their performance in the French GP in May. Can not wait for next year !
