Interministerial warfare around automatic radars
The war of communiques level CM2 that the ministers of transport, Dominique Perben, and of the interior, Nicolas Sarkozy, are waging on the eve of the holidays, would be refreshing if it were not sadly demagogic and hopelessly sterile…
In an interview with Le Parisien on June 20, Dominique Perben assured that the 1000 automatic radars planned for the end of 2005 (read our) would be "sufficient, at least for the moment".
According to the new Minister of Transport, there would therefore be "no new wave of installations next year". Things could have stopped there and the 1000 automatic radars, already more than largely sufficient, could have gradually fallen into disuse in general indifference. In the long term, the public authorities could even have tried to favor training in fast driving rather than repress it stupidly, automatically and blindly. We can always dream…
But it was to forget a little quickly the thirst for power and the extreme susceptibility of Nicolas Sarkozy, former mayor of Neuilly, president of the Hauts-de-Seine general council, president of the UMP, minister of the interior, bis prime minister, brother of the future president of MEDEF, cleaner of the Courneuve and the Magistracy and, to top it all off, future president of the Republic, who, with his inexplicable popularity with the public and the media, wanted to say loud and clear that it was out of the question !
On the contrary, "I hope that the program will be continued beyond the 2005 program" because "our duty is to preserve the victims, not to accept criminal behavior", he trumpeted yesterday in the Assembly. , with his keen sense of the TF1 approved formula, in response to one of his relatives, UMP deputy Thierry Mariani, who asked him opportunely on the subject…
Dominique Perben, who would have been sharply slapped on the fingers by Matignon – and by the Elysee, given the security boulevard thus opened to the competitor of 2007? – following his initial statements, is trying today painfully to extinguish the fire, assuring whoever wants to hear it that "the speed control policy in terms of road safety is a priority, both for the head of the ‘State only for the whole government’. We were afraid !
Greatly reassured, the housewife under 50 was able to return to the beach in peace when she learned that not only MM. Perben and Sarkozy are "both very attached to the protection of victims and the improvement of the means of speed control", but also that "the current program of installation of 1000 radars contributes in a decisive way". Phew !
France will therefore have 300 additional automatic radars by the end of the year in order to reach the 1,000 planned. Finally, for the special attention of the most worried among us, Dominique Perben promised sworn spitting that "the government will make its decisions on the follow-up to this program" at the next Interministerial Road Safety Council (IRB) scheduled for this Friday. Relieved ?
