Gathered this morning at the headquarters of the Automobile Club in Paris, the three major market players (Coyote, Inforad and Wikango) have decided to form the French Association of Suppliers and Users of Driving Assistance Technologies (AFFTAC) to prevent the government from banning the use of speed camera warnings, a measure deemed "unfair, unwarranted and indiscriminate".

Supported by "4.7 million users of our products", including private individuals but also "taxis, ambulance drivers, truck drivers, motorcyclists, sales representatives, craftsmen, employees of SMEs or nurses for whom a driving license is often equivalent to a work permit ", the bosses of Coyote (Fabien Pierlot), Inforad (Jean-Georges Schwartz) and Wikango (Loïc Rattier) have therefore announced their desire to" roll back the government ".

Faced with such measures which are so prejudicial to individual freedoms, one can reasonably hope that this will soon be only an umpteenth announcement effect on the part of a customary government of the fact: legally, it seems inconceivable that the he prohibition of a communication system making it possible to exchange information on the locations of accident-prone areas for a long time has withstood close examination by a competent court. We can therefore count on the manufacturers of radar warning devices – and in particular Coyote, Inforad and Wikango united within AFFTAC – to position their products differently by emphasizing more on "sensitive areas" than on "speed cameras". A little marketing brainstorming, and the case should be heard.
On the other hand, we can seriously wonder about the motivations of such a policy which is not far from being unanimous against it, except of course the few associations of victims widely publicized…. So our colleague from Le Figaro told us this morning that her readership was "headstrong against this measure". If even voters traditionally favorable to the right are rebelling against these attacks on their freedoms, if even some deputies of the presidential majority no longer hide their exasperation at this blind repression, how to explain the relentlessness of the government to spoil more every day the life of its citizens? The debate is open… |
"4.7 million active contributors to road safety and prevention"
"Our 4.7 million users are not delinquents", notably recalled Fabien Pierlot: "we are a community of drivers who defend a safer road by sharing information in real time, we cannot prohibit that to the French". AFFTAC therefore intends to campaign to "denounce all the lies heard since yesterday".
"The government wants to develop real-time information for drivers on the speed limit to be observed? We are already doing it. Our products constantly display the speed limit to be observed!", Retorts Mr. Pierlot.
"The government wants to strengthen vigilance at the wheel? All the studies we have carried out prove that warning devices increase the vigilance of each driver and help to combat the risk of drowsiness", continues AFFTAC.
"The government wants to promote good behavior on the road? Each of our devices indicates areas at risk through the community of our users, thus making it possible to anticipate areas of slowdown and sudden braking", concludes the association.
Finally, by "signaling accident-prone areas to encourage drivers to put their feet up in all these places, we are helping to improve road safety".
"We were absolutely not concerted before this decision", further deplores Loïc Rattier (Wikango) while Jean-Georges Schwartz (Inforad) recalls that the radar warning business generates "2000 direct and indirect jobs in France, a country whose leadership in this area is today threatened by the government ".
A vast mobilization of this "community of users" will take place on Wednesday May 18 at 1:00 p.m. in Lille, Bordeaux, Lyon, Marseille and Paris (all the information to follow on the Site).
