4th South Morvan rally: Langlois wins and Piazza loses the lead
Impressive in the special on the handlebars of his Ducati 1100 Streetfighter, Bruno Langlois won the rally ahead of Bruno Schiltz (Suzuki 750 GSR) and Mickael Porcu (Aprilia 550 SXV). Report of a race rich in twists and turns: things are moving this year !
Night stage, loop C and D
St-Helène, first night pass: Bruno Langlois, ineradicable at the head of the race, once again obtained the best time on his Ducati 1099 Streetfighter in 4’01.82 in front of the official KTM 990 Superduke of Julien Toniutti (4’05.85) and Paul-Christian Piazza on KTM 450 EXC (4’06 95).
In sidecar, Laur and Ferrieu maintained their leadership position at the controls of their side Choda 1300 Suzuki by securing the sixteenth fastest time (4’29 40) in front of a motivated crew, Amblard / Bourdiaux on Choda 1100 Kawazaki (4’31 88).
In the Classics, Nick Ayrton on Suzuki 1100 GSXR is also unbeatable and takes the 24 time (just behind me!) In 4’40.65. I finished 23rd in 4’38.52 but I must admit that Nick still got ahead of me in the day stage !
The Sport category is led this night by Thierry Canazzi on KTM 400 EXC, who obtains here the 18th time in 4’31 96. It should be noted in passing that Thierry was one of the many pilots this morning who "gardened" and "took pawns "(late penalties) during the day stage with 15 seconds hourly penalty at a CH.
The road continues towards Aigrefeuille. Several pilots ride in groups to facilitate the work of following the route. But when we ride in a group we tend to lose attention … This is what happened to Jean-Pierre Lavignasse on his Kawasaki 650 ER6 n048 … Seeing that he was going to miss an intersection on the right, the competitor who precedes him straight and Jean-Pierre hits him by performing a forward somersault (but not noted, this one!) … He falls heavily next to his machine and lies on the ground lifeless. The other competitors who were driving with him stop and secure the place to avoid the accident … But luckily, the injured man regains consciousness fairly quickly before the arrival of help. He was ultimately only injured in his left hand and left by ambulance for observation at the nearest hospital. Good scare anyway for those who attended the scene !
We are finally in Aigrefeuille, special 2 of the night stage. Julien Toniutti, the Site rider on the official KTM 990 Superduke, sends the mash and slams the best time in 2’28.32, five tenths ahead of Bruno Schiltz’s Suzuki 750 GSR (2’28 83). Paul-Christian Piazza on KTM 450 EXC is third in 2’31.42. We therefore find three Corsican pilots in the same second with Flavien Coitoux (KTM 690 SMC) in 2’31.74 and Mickael Porcu (Aprilia 550 SXV) in 2’31.91. As for Bruno Langlois he probably manages his lead and obtains here 2’32 27.
Clash on the side-cars side! The Laur / Ferrieu crew on a Choda 1300 Suzuki, perhaps under pressure from the Amblard / Bourdiaux side, put on a little too much, came out wide and much too quickly from a fast curve: it was off the road , followed by a big crash and a long neutralization of the special…
In the accident, the sidecar was badly damaged. The pilot Herve Laur comes out unscathed, but his passenger and companion Marie-Laure Ferrieu suffers from five broken ribs as well as a slight cervical fracture … Fortunately, "she keeps morale", Herve admits to us later. For Amblard / Bourdiaux, the fall of Laur / Ferrieu following the abandonment of the Marlin / Marlin crew during the day stage due to technical problems incurred following a fall in the special de St-Helène with their Choda 1130 sidecar Benelli puts them at the head of the sidecar category of this fourth South Morvan rally.
Once back in St-Jean-de-Vaux to complete loop C, a final loop (D) was scheduled for a final passage through the St-Helène special. But following delays throughout the rally and in particular during the accident of the Laur / Ferrieu crew, loop D is canceled and the rally therefore ends at the finish of this first night lap..
Quite a few small glitches therefore, and accidents of all kinds, but fortunately not too serious. A nice rally all the same, with many twists and turns. As for Julien Toniutti, the Site pilot on the official KTM 990 Superduke KTM France, he takes pole position in the 2012 championship. !
But nothing is ever acquired in rallying and Bruno Langlois is now also at the gates of the supreme title … The Corsican driver, who did not intend to do the entire 2012 championship because of his participation in the Pikes Peak in Colorado at the beginning of July, you may well be in Villecomtal for the Dourdou rally, the next event of the 2012 French championship on July 13 and 14 … So a word of advice: stay tuned !
