Road rallies - 7th Corsica rally: Emperor Toniutti wins - Corsican night ...

Site pilot Julien Toniutti wins the third round of the French rally championship in Corsica riding a KTM 500 EXC, after a race full of surprises in a grandiose setting but in terrible weather… Story.

Corsican night…

For the night stage, no change: it’s raining! In the Pietrosella special, the official KTM Site pilot Julien Toniutti, finally fitted with rain tires front and rear, announces the color as if to remind who is the boss: he slams the best time in 3’53.84 ahead of the Husaberg 570 FS from Mickael Porcu (3’54.87) and Aprilia 550 SXV from Flavien Coitoux (4’05.09). Things are looking pretty good !

The route of the night stage follows the small loop of the third day’s lap, i.e. around thirty kilometers between the two stages.

In the Pont de la Pierre special, it was Luc Deiana on KTM 690 SMC who "chronotte" the fastest in 2’29.25, ahead of Mickael Porcu on Husabeg 570 FS (2’31.99) and Julien Toniutti in 2’33.36.

Second night lap: Mickael Porcu took the best scratch time (3’54.76) for Pietrosella, ahead of Julien Toniutti (3’56.68) and Flavien Coitoux (4’06.35). Flavien will unfortunately be forced to retire following an engine failure: hard law of motorsport !

In the last special, last passage at the Pont de la Pierre, the owl Julien Toniuttirminator ends this seventh Corsican rally with a second time on the handlebars of his official one-race KTM, the 500 EXC, which he thus leads to victory! The best time goes to Luc Deiana on KTM 690 SM, 1.48 seconds faster than Julien (2’28.61). Third time for Mickael Porcu who offers himself the night stage on the handlebars of his Husaberg 570 FS. Fourth time for Nicolas "Crazy", the cat Pautet on his good old Husaberg 650 FS (2’34.04) which obtains the third step of the final podium. Bravo to the Site pilots !

Nice performance also from Thierry Canazzi, leader of the Sport category on the handlebars of his KTM 400 EXC, who takes the 7th scratch time less than 4 tenths of a second from the sixth time, Bruno Schiltz on Honda 450 HM.

Return to Porticcio by the shortest route of the rally. A slight problem of shortened connection time, which has become impossible to do while scrupulously respecting the highway code (given the many sections of road in built-up areas limited to 30km / h), will involve a cancellation of the last sector by the race director. So yet another victory for our unbeatable champion, the Site and official KTM France pilot Julien Toniutti riding a KTM 500 EXC.

Hats off also to Karine Sliz on KTM 690 Duke, first female, who finished this rally in 22nd place overall, among the Elite drivers of the French championship (the 20 best in the provisional classification of the championship).

On the Classics side, congratulations to Patrick Cosnuau, the ASMACO Sarthois driver of a Honda 750 VFR, who won the category thanks to amazing times during the daytime specials..

Among the six 125 entered, Tanguy Brebion braved the pitfalls (at the same time as the bad weather) and led his race at full speed to finally win the category !

The Corsican drivers, for their part, have shown that they are indisputably the fastest on their roads. But the facts of racing do not always smile on the best: rally is a discipline where many elements come into play and where the misfortune of some necessarily smiles on others….

Next meeting in Cerdon for the 75th Ain rally (01): stay tuned !
