Road rallies - 78th Rallye de l'Ain: Velardi on velvet! - Final classification and positions in the championship

Winner of the two stages day and night with 8 specials won out of 14, Ajaccian Christophe Velardi (Ducati 1200 Multistrada) emerges victorious from this edition of the 2016 Ain rally and takes the lead of the championship. Report.

Final classification and positions in the championship

Unsurprisingly, we find on the final scratch podium of the rally Christophe Velardi winner, Bruno Schitz second and Julien Toniutti third.

Small clarification at the level of the provisional classification of the championship: Christophe Velardi is in the lead in front of Bruno Schiltz, but Julien Toniutti having interposed between them by placing second during the night stage, he creates a greater points gap between the two championship leaders. Also, to regain the lead and win the title of champion of France 2016, Bruno must imperatively win the two stages of the final event, the Dourdou rally, which will take place in Villecomtal (12) on July 17 and 18 (in the measure where Christophe finishes second)…

The two thieves now have a 9-point difference: it will be hot in Aveyron this summer and everything remains possible !

Note the superb recovery of Sonia Barbot, on the handlebars of her KTM 690 Duke R of the KTM Team France CTM 83. After a few misses during the first part of the race, she climbs up during the last loop until obtaining a tenth scratch time in the last special, which allows him to finish the rally in 20th position among the Elites.

For his part Julien Toniutti does not discuss the fact of having left "his" rally to Christophe: "I’m not looking for excuses, I’m not going to say that I had more wet parts than the others or any other excuse to two pounds Manx", explains Julien."I was not in it, you know I have just done nearly 2,400 kilometers at 195 km / h on average on the Isle of Man so it tires a little, and then these are not the same data or benchmarks as in rally then it requires a period of rehabilitation !"

Except in the Sidecar category where the 2016 championship title has already been acquired by the Norbert Jacob and Franck Bacon crew on their Choda 1340 GSXR team, and in Women, where Sonia Barbot (KTM 690 Duke R KTM Team France CTM 83 ) has such a lead in front of the second (Alexandra Garcia on BMW S 1000 RR, absent on the last two rallies) that she already has the title in her pocket, nothing is irretrievably settled in the other categories … can only be defined after the final, at the Rallye du Dourdou in Villecomtal on July 17 and 18.

So what to expect from big battles, especially on the side of the 125 4-stroke, category led for the moment by Germain Perrot (Husqvarna 125 SMS), one point only in front of the Yamaha 125 YZF of Romain Cauquil (267 points for Germain, 266 for Romain). This category being more and more popular (seven entered in the Rallye de l’Ain), we will have to go and get it for the title point. !

The 2016 championship final is therefore likely to be hotly contested at all levels: not to be missed under any circumstances! See you in Villecomtal (12) for the thirteenth edition of the Dourdou rally: stay tuned !
