Road rallies - Rallye de la Sarthe: Julien Toniutti at the power of the wrist! - Saturday 8:00 p.m.: stage 2, night

Impressive result from Julien Toniutti who won the Rallye de la Sarthe a fortnight after breaking his wrist! A difficult race where nothing was won in advance: new route, new stages… Story !

Saturday 8:00 p.m.: stage 2, night

The biggest question before the night‘s departure will have been "rain or not rain?" The sky is starting to cloud over and the weather forecast announces probable showers … Julien Toniutti finally decides to keep his Michelin Power One, which has given him complete satisfaction on the road stages. He had chosen such a rig specifically for the circuit and for a long time hesitated to mount the new Michelin Power Pure, which performs better in the wet "provided you use them at the right pressure, 2.6 behind and 2.5 in front".

The start will be delayed this time by 30 minutes for various reasons, but the organizers will have to be congratulated for ensuring a rally from start to finish without excessive delays or shortening of the program. !

The night loop is of the same ilk as the day ones: the roads still just as rotten and the changes of direction still as numerous … Although signposted, the route requires particularly close attention. !

At Domfront, second passage but first night special, it was again Julien Toniutti who set the best time in 2: 18: 73! Maxime Mettra follows him very closely in 2’18”84, but Nicolas Derrien and his BMW F 800 R move away: author of the third time (2’24”41), he loses almost half of the lead he had on Julien. It didn’t take more for the Team Site rider to boost! Julien will also win the scratch of the Courceboeufs special with almost 3 seconds better than Nicolas … Everything will therefore be decided in the last special, Domfront.

The two contenders for the victory will give everything, but Nicolas Derrien will not be able to counter Julien "De Poignet" Toniutti who once again places his KTM 990 Superduke at the top of the standings with a space time! A few tenths from his best day time, he stuck almost 6 seconds to Nico! Very nice shot Julien !

For my part, thank you to Michel Bonneau for having "pulled" me throughout the night loop because at my advanced age I no longer see the intermediate distances on my road book reader at night … Thanks to Michel’s talent for navigation in the road book I was able to check in on time on the handlebars of my, which certainly would not have been the case by stopping at all the crossroads to see if I was not in the wrong box…
