Road rallies - Rallye de la Sarthe: Julien Toniutti at the power of the wrist! - The contenders for victory

Impressive result from Julien Toniutti who won the Rallye de la Sarthe a fortnight after breaking his wrist! A difficult race where nothing was won in advance: new route, new stages… Story !

The contenders for victory

After his fall in recce during the Sun Rally (read and), nobody expected Julien Toniutti to be the winner of the Sarthe rally.

The official KTM rider of Team Site nevertheless imposed his 990 Superduke after a remarkable brawl throughout the event.

"I would like to thank Dr. Guigal from the Parc clinic in Lyon for the effectiveness of the operation he performed ten days earlier to consolidate my radius fracture", specifies Julien who was thus able to take the start of the Rallye de la Sarthe 2011.

As for several years already, the central point of the famous Sarthois rally is located in La Suze (72), where the sun was there this weekend to greet the 54th edition of the race..

Note also the participation of the local Aurelien "Riri" Renault on the handlebars of his Yamaha Fazer n ° 362, of which it was the very first rally and the very first race in general. !

The route, however, is new: three different loops in the north of Sarthe for a total of more than 600 km, with seven specials including the famous and inevitable 24 Hours circuit (four timed laps). The two road specials are new and will be performed three times each during the course: Courceboeufs (3.5 km) and Domfront-en-Champagne (3.3 km).

Two of the three loops are to be done for the day stage and the last night:

  • First loop (morning): La Suze – Bugatti circuit special – Courceboeufs special – Ballon (midday stopover village)

  • Second loop (afternoon): Balloon – Courceboeufs special – Domfront special – La Suze

  • Third loop (night): La Suze – Domfront special – Courceboeufs special – Domfront special – La Suze

In view of the technical nature of the course (small earthy roads and multiple changes of direction requiring a good sense of navigation), Maxime Mettra and his antique KTM 950 Supermoto could be considered favorites. But with the four laps of the Bugatti circuit everything remains open, as the lead gained by the scratcher in the circuit special is generally difficult for the pursuers to fill in six small road stages. Except that this year, the stages are longer than usual and more "Monos" style … Everything is possible !

The brothers Nicolas and Florent Derrien, locals of the event riding respectively a BMW F 800 R and a KTM 690 SM, are also among the favorites while Nick Ayrton (Yamaha R1) has every intention of s ‘impose on the Bugatti … the battle promises to be hot !

Within the Team Site, apart from Julien Toniutti’s injury, everyone regrets the absence of Pierre "Moon" Mouneu, who would have particularly enjoyed the technical nature of the road stages this year. The goal of the team’s top riders, Maxime "Metimax" Mettra and Julien "Acrobike" Toniutti, is the same: "we will bring you the best scratcher trophy, Moon !", they announce to Pierre on the phone.

The trophy for the best scratcher, initiated by the CMPN in tribute to Thomas Laroche, a young and talented rallyman of the CMPN who died during the reconnaissance of the Dark Dog Moto Tour 2007 (read) and won by Pierre Mouneu in 2010, is indeed put back into play. each year and awarded to the best time of the combined road specials.
