Julien Toniutti, reigning French champion, had other ambitions this year, but he could not help but come and participate in this Rallye de la Sarthe for fun … And one more victory for the driver Yamaha ! Story.

Road rallying is a particularly addictive motorcycle sport, it is well known. And despite the gradual reconversion of our French rally champion in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015, Julien Toniutti, for British road races (read), no one was surprised to see the official Yamaha rider arrive at La Suze on Sarthe (72) as a competitor in this 59th edition.

Coming to the handlebars of his MT 09 Tracer "personal" on Friday afternoon, the day before the start of the rally, his staff already on site with the Yamaha 450 YZF in the van, Julien will hardly have time to go and reconnoitre the course … A real tourist … trophy !

The layout of this 59th Sarthe rally is not, however, the simplest! A complicated road course (where even a few Sarthois get lost …), very "Sarthoise" specials (including earthy and gravel), in short, a real rally !

The only big lack in the program for this edition is the absence of the Bugatti circuit: the date shift of the 24 Heures Motos and the availability of the circuit did not allow ASMACO, organizer of the Sarthe rally, to include as each year the circuit in its program to complete the usual five laps chrono. This year, the competitors will therefore only have the three different, highly technical specials to decide between themselves during the race. A detoxification cure for the 130 pilots who attended this edition ?

A busy schedule, with a total of nearly 460 km in total and 11 special stages. will be embellished with Sarthe freshness and a certain transient humidity … It will be hot on the stages! The organization will therefore shorten the special at Domfront in Champagne, which is too dangerous because of significant deposits of soil on the surface and because of its very technical nature, deemed too accident-prone by the race management. The 3.3 km will be halved.
