A bill has just been tabled in the National Assembly to allow motorcycles and scooters to go up the lines in the event of traffic jams or severely slowed traffic. It was time ! Explanations.
It is at the initiative of Damien Meslot, deputy (UMP) of the Territoire de Belfort, that the legislator will have to pronounce on this bill aiming to "authorize two-wheeled motor vehicles to circulate in interlocking on expressways urban ".
We remember that at the end of last year, the Minister of the Interior Claude Gueant had indicated that "the public authorities were open to a discussion on the subject (of traffic between lines, Editor’s note) with biker associations "(read), attracting the encouragement of the French Motorcycling Federation (FFM) and the French Federation of Angry Bikers (FFMC).
In traffic jams, "traffic is very difficult for motorized two-wheelers", reminds the deputy to his colleagues: "as the safety distance between vehicles decreases, and even as, very often, it is no longer at all respected, they risk being struck, when stationary, in their line, for lack of visibility, often being stuck behind larger vehicles. The same applies in the event of a sudden slowdown in traffic, a fortiori in the tunnels ".
"It is therefore preferable, for the very safety of motorcyclists, that they can drive, in the event of a traffic jam, between the lines of cars. This is what is called inter-wire traffic", continues Mr. Meslot: " currently this practice, in the silence of the texts, is not expressly prohibited, but it is not authorized either. In particular, the police force can always verbalize, when the motorcyclist goes up a line where he passes cars by the right ".
"The interlocking speed cannot exceed 30 km / h"
This "sea serpent" subject is therefore moving forward a notch with this bill No. 4493 registered at the Presidency of the National Assembly on April 3, 2012, which requires that a new article L. 431-2 be inserted. in the highway code:
“Art. L. 431-2. – The two-wheeled motor vehicle is authorized to run in interlocking, on urban expressways, when the main flows of motor traffic are at a standstill or are flowing at a speed of less than 15 km / h.
“The interlocking speed cannot exceed 30 km / h. The driver of the two-wheeled motor vehicle activates his hazard warning lights. He cannot overtake another two-wheeled motor vehicle traveling in interlocking itself. "
