As sad as it is sometimes (read in particular our), the motorcycle news remains particularly poignant in its hours! This is the case with the reaction of the Road Safety and Traffic Directorate (DSCR) to our article the day before yesterday, in which we underlined the non-compliance of the official fluorescent armband (read).

Retro-reflective bad faith ?

Raised yesterday by Site at the Ministry of the Interior (read), this "non-compliance" because of insufficient retro-reflective surface had made Claude Gueant smile: "oh, it will just be enough to stretch it a little", joked the first cop in France.

Today, the DSCR lets us know in writing that our assertion that the official armband does not comply "is not justified", because it "meets the standard EN 13356 which sets the quality of retro reflection". Except that at no time did we express the slightest doubt about the technical composition of the cuff….

An armband on each arm !

Regarding the non-regulatory surface of the cuff (25 x 5.8 cm = 145 cm2 instead of the 150 cm2 fixed by), the DSCR continues by telling us that "this cuff is only an example". She estimates that it "is exactly 144 cm2 (sic) instead of 150" and that we are therefore "almost within the margin of error" !

We are therefore delighted to discover not only the existence of this "margin of error", but also that it is "almost" respected. And above all, we discover within Road Safety a department "tips and tricks" as unsuspected as well stocked: it will suffice to meet the standards, we are assured on the side of the DSCR, to "wear two armbands (one on each arm) in order to double the retro-reflective surface " !

Because it is well known: it is simpler – and especially much more economical in times of crisis! – to manufacture and distribute two cuffs of 145 cm2 rather than one of 150…
