Roadster - 2013 Street Triple R Test: an & quot; R & quot; of a brawler! - A real toy, for adults!

Unveiled at the Intermot show in Cologne, the 2013 Triumph 675 Street Triple vintage will arrive in dealerships in mid-November. Moto-Net was able to try it in version "R" in the vicinity of Almeria, in Spain, during its official presentation to the press.. Test.

A real toy, for adults !

Aligned in the courtyard of the hotel, about twenty Street Triple R shine brightly and hold out their guides. Difficult to resist, especially since most of them are equipped with optional accessories to make them even more beautiful and seductive..

The grip of the Street "R" is carried out naturally, most riders’ riders easily finding their marks despite an increased saddle height (820 mm against 805 previously).

The proposed riding position is good, with well positioned footrests (slightly set back, lower than on the Daytona), a well designed and ergonomic tank, as well as a handlebars at good height and distance. The design of the saddle has changed significantly, while the proposed seat remains firm but nevertheless correct.

Contact: the dashboard comes alive, as does the injection system pump. A kick of the starter and the English three-cylinder gives voice, characteristic hissing and purring. A real hearing pleasure, reinforced with each boost.

First engaged, our small group takes off in the wheel of Simon Warburton, "product manager" at the English manufacturer. The gears are linked quickly, smoothly and with remarkable precision, accentuated by the lengthening of the 1st gear, which no longer slams when switching to second.

Whatever the gear engaged, the Street accepts to evolve smoothly on a trickle of gas and facilitates changes in the urban cycle. Light, the English displays increased maneuverability and takes advantage of its lowered center of gravity and its improved turning radius to look better than before in this city context. It is now easier to make a U-turn on a road or on a narrow street.

The new exhaust in no way alters the bewitching sound of the "Tripeul" and contributes greatly to the pleasure of driving. Difficult to remain zen to the sound of this melody, accentuated by a new intake system, more sonorous, which greatly encourages playing the gas grip.

The adoption of new injector bodies and a new calibration of the injection system also improves fuel consumption with, according to the manufacturer, a gain of 30% (!) In the urban cycle (i.e. 5.5 l / 100 km instead of 7.1 l) and 12% at a stabilized speed of 90 km / h (4.1 l / 100 km instead of 4.6 l). Beyond that, however, no change: the small roadster still consumes 5.2 l / 100 km in stabilized speed at 120 km / h.

Site has not had the opportunity to verify these values. Note all the same that our average consumption for this test of about 250 km was ultimately around 6.7 l / 100 according to the on-board computer (kilometers made, it is true, at a more than sustained rate).

Suddenly, the autonomy of the Street in these conditions is established around 260 km, reserve included. Finally, good to know: when the remaining mileage indicator displays 0 km, there is still enough to cover around thirty kilometers. When there are no more…
