2019 Honda Forza 300 review: more sport, less comfort
Modeled on the bestseller 125, the new Honda Forza 300 radically evolves towards more dynamism. More modern, this Sport-GT scooter offers unprecedented traction control while retaining its enormous trunk. Test.
Honda Forza 300 test – page 2: good everywhere
The old Forza 300 was "organic", the new one is sharp! With its taut forms, slim bow fairing and narrower handlebars, the new Forza exudes a feeling of energy never before seen. 9 out of 10 for the restyling! After the, we were eager to ride this 300 with similar dimensions … but the "thrilling" more beefy !
Starting point: Nice. Place of arrival: Paris? This was one of the options offered by Bruno Skotnicki, Honda Moto France press manager. Due to lack of time, it is a more modest "Nice-Monaco" which will be retained: intense traffic in the capital of the Riviera, winding roads towards the Italian border and a beautiful motorway section, that is to say less than 100 km to define its possibilities.
Come on, let’s go … Where’s the key? The key, which key? Smart-key in your pocket, the unit comes to life with a simple press on the starter! The hoarse sound immediately betrays the displacement. It is in the city that the reduced measurements of the new Forza 300 – modeled on those of the 125 – have the greatest impact on driving.
But if the Forza 300 squeezes between cars like the Forza 125, its larger displacement (+154 cc) and extra 20 kg (182 kg) inevitably gives it more inertia at low speeds. Very slow maneuvers are also less obvious because of the torque, doubled compared to the 125 (27.2 Nm against 12.5)! But this additional mechanical chest is appreciated in other phases, especially in duo.
As noted above, the driving position has picked up. We are seated straighter than before and above all higher (780 mm), which motorcyclists under five feet may regret. The saddle, well designed, also offers a correct comfort with a firm tendency, even with the legs extended on the apron.
The same goes for the suspensions, whose tuning has been redefined compared to the 125 via hardened springs. In town, the advantage of a 300 is, as mentioned above, in its acceleration. And the Forza is not stingy! Without really justifying the usefulness of traction control in the dry, its starts are sufficient to "tape" most vehicles.
Efficient, rather than energetic recoveries
Direction Monaco by the lower Corniche. The road highlights the takeovers of the 300 cc. Not that the power is demonic, but this very slightly optimized engine this year shows good will. Engine thrust is constant, but linear. In short: efficient.
While it is more agile when entering a corner, the Forza 300 offers less comfort than the previous model. The price of his reorientation in sport … Inequalities are firmly swallowed up. This behavior benefits in a pinch, since even by brutalizing it, it never disunites.
Neutral, the scooter does not stand up when braking and does not regret the abandonment of CBS coupled braking. Braking is effective, sufficiently progressive and quite powerful enough for a scooter that is now less heavy. It is also optimized by the enlargement of the rear wheel – less sensitive to holes or bumps – and the excellent original Pirelli. ABS is practically transparent.
The motorway leading back to Nice airport gives the opportunity to pick up speed … and play with the bubble, which had remained in a low position until then. Easy to adjust, it rises smoothly with a finger press on the left stalk. At its maximum, it perfectly protects the bust and head but less the shoulders, as on the Forza 125.
In curves as in a straight line, the Forza’s stance remains imperturbable. For the record, despite a counter display exceeding 140 km / h, the officially announced speed is only 129 km / h. In theory, therefore, you will not have to worry about on the motorway. Theoretically…
Verdict: the right cost ?
Never before has a Honda scooter carried the name Sport-GT so well. It stands out as an example of mobility, easy to use on a daily basis and able to tackle the motorway without forcing. Coupled and submissive, the Forza 300 utility can transform into a recreational vehicle that you can use, at your own pace, on weekends or on vacation.
Its upgrade is successful without being too radical, and the last good news: the price contained at € 5,799, only 700 euros higher than the Forza 125. The latter appears in comparison decidedly far too expensive! Note that we can add a 45-liter top case on this new Forza 300, with an extension of 450 euros, to bring the load volume to 100 liters.
