New Honda X-ADV scooter: a little more Forza for 2021
Honda is logically evolving its original X-ADV thanks to the improvements released on its new Forza 750. The "SUV of scooters" becomes a little more efficient and better equipped, while keeping its advantageous look and its practical aspects. Presentation.
When testing the new Forza 750, the director of the Honda France motorcycle division told us that he had as many ambitions with this new anti-Tmax as with the ("2000 units" each). This forecast had put us in our ears, because it suggested an upcoming overhaul of the X-ADV launched and then refined as soon as … Good pick: the Honda "scoot-trail" is indeed getting a new look for 2021 !
- MNC test : Forza 750, stronger than the Tmax ?!
- MNC file :
This development is quite natural since the new Forza 750 uses the basis of the X-ADV, itself derived from the Integra … which is originally a "scooter" version of the NC700 / NC750 motorcycles. Not always easy to navigate with these platform shares that manufacturers have become fond of to compress prices !
The new X-ADV therefore receives the improvements of the Forza 750, starting with the "new" twin cylinder of 745 cc revised at the level of the intake and the exhaust to meet Euro5 standards while gaining slightly in power with 58 , 6 hp (+ 4 hp) thanks to an engine speed increased by 600 rpm. A version restricted to 47.5 hp is available for A2 motorcycle licenses, as in 2019.
More efficient engine and Euro5
This long-stroke engine – 77×80 mm – is coupled to a new electronic accelerator and a DCT double-clutch transmission, the progress of which the Journal Moto du Net has appreciated on this 12th generation. However, a drive always seems more pleasant, responsive and fluid, especially when moving at very low speeds..
Other disadvantages of the DCT: its overweight compared to a vario, as well as its kinematics for the moment planned around a final transmission by chain. Lubrication and rim cleaning remain on the program of the Honda scooter, unlike its belt rivals…
Honda also specifies that ratios 1 to 3 have been shortened for "more sporty sensations", while speeds 4.5 and 6 are on the contrary lengthened for "a more fuel-efficient driving".
The electronic equipment is progressing with the arrival of an engine brake control (3 levels) and configurable maps on three levels in addition to the anti-slip present on the X-ADV since 2018. The adjustable ABS remains of the part, all managed differently according to four driving modes configured in (Standard, Sport, Rain, Gravel) or by hand with the "User" mode.
More electronics and TFT screen
The X-ADV also features new color matrix instrumentation that is both readable and comprehensive. This 5-inch screen offers a Bluetooth connection with a telephone, as well as an unprecedented voice control function developed by Honda to operate the telephone functions via a voice command (telephony, navigation, music). When testing the Forza 750, MNC especially appreciated the GPS navigation displayed on the right.
Side cycle, few changes: the X-ADV retains its tubular steel frame – lightened by "1 kg" -, its inverted fork of 41 mm adjustable in preload and rebound, its shock absorber adjustable in preload and its radial Nissin callipers. It remains camped on its paved tires of different diameter (120/70/17 and 160/60/15) for the space under the saddle, also redesigned and peaking at 820 mm (790 on Forza).
The carrying capacity remains limited to 22 liters, as on the Forza, which is enough to slip a full face helmet and some small business, but nothing more. Note the integration of a USB-C socket in this lighted trunk: good, but we would have preferred it to be installed in the storage compartment that appears on the right of the apron. What do you mean "never happy" ?!
An adjustable windshield: that’s Forza !
Another positive development: the appearance of "Smart-Key" keyless starting via transponder remote control, which also ensures the locking and unlocking of the boot and the optional top case. Device both practical and easy to use for this 236 kg scooter, down 3 kg compared to the previous one.
The X-ADV 2021 also renews its manually adjustable windshield without tools in five positions and 139 mm of amplitude, a feature that is sorely lacking in the new Forza 750 yet more "GT" in mind! The "off-road" inspiration of the X-ADV allows it to equip itself with practical hand guards and an equally interesting engine spoiler..
The tank capacity is reduced by a small liter to 13.2 l, or a range of "366 km" Honda calculates from an announced consumption of "3.6 l / 100 km". MNC for its part recorded 4.4 l / 100 km on the dashboard during our test of the Forza 750 – partly in the rain, so without forcing – which rather leads to 300 km of range..
The new Honda scooter will be available in "January 2021" in gray, black, red and silver (see under technical sheet), reveals Honda France which announces a price – salty! – 12,299 euros or 640 euros more than the Forza 750.
