In 1996, Vincent Eisen started with 1000 cc Promosports, then 600 cc from 1997 to 2000 but a forearm problem (compartment syndrome) prevented him from obtaining good results and he had to undergo surgery..

In 2001, he won the Promosport 250 Championship. Not having the budget to go up to the Open and unable to race in a category already won, he ran the Promosport 500 cc Championship on a GPZ and won again … So , he made the forcing and passed in Open 250. Meeting.

Moto-Net: Vincent, how was your Open 250 season ?
Vincent Eisen: I first needed a good mechanic, and that’s done with Nanard. Then I had to be well advised, because the technical investment is much more important than in Promosports. The fact that Jean-Claude Selini followed me throughout the season was essential: 11 years in GP, ​​one victory and 5 podiums to his credit, his experience has helped me a lot! My only regret is to have left to do "in the 10" without ever considering that I could be a wild card at the French GP at Le Mans, or play the title three points behind the leader before the last race! I certainly would have tried to invest more if I had known I could be so competitive in my first year at the Open! It really is the best class I’ve ever ridden! Lightweight, powerful, that’s great! Too bad it ends, because I don’t know what to do next season !

MN: how do you explain your good results while riding a visibly inferior machine ?
VE: it’s true, I drive a Honda RS from 2000 that is less agile and less powerful than those of Aubry and Lefort, tied with Poulle. I had the chance to run two races in the rain, I won one and made 2 to the other because of a mistake when I could win! The rain compensates for the power deficit and promotes pure driving. In the dry, Aubry and Leblanc have kits which favor them enormously, but Poulle has the same bike as me, an RS from 2000, and he leads the championship with 98 points ahead of Leblanc and Aubry (97) and me (95).

MN: So, everything is playing out just now … Your tests went well ?
VE: not great, I tightened on Thursday morning and then I have a shock absorber that got stuck … A competitor lent me one to run! I am still a little disappointed with my 4th place, 4 / 10th of 2nd and 3rd, but more than a second behind Leblanc. I have no choice, I really have to make a good start !

MN: what do you think of the disappearance of the 250 category ?
VE: I know people who wanted to come but didn’t, because the announcement of the upcoming end of the GP 250 did wrong! I did it anyway, but many went to Supersport because the 600 will stay. The only possibility to ride in 250 is the European Championship (the one that revealed Laconi and Jacque, 1st and 2nd in 1994, Editor’s note), but the higher level requires more financial and human investments than I am. not sure of being able to assume. Fortunately, I won the Promosports 250 in 2001 and 500 in 2002, that eases the regret of not having come sooner! Anyway, for the 600 Supersport, the budget is more substantial than that of the 250. The price of parts and the cost of the chute are also higher. !

The race

Top start: Vincent starts very hard but is passed at the first corner by Detot and Aubry. Aubry quickly passed first, Leblanc quickly passed Detot and came back to Aubry. Vincent is 5th behind Rebuttini. Detot misses and widens, Rebuttini and Eisen take the opportunity to pass. Leblanc takes the lead in front of Aubry, Rebuttini tries to distance Vincent without success. Leblanc lined up quick laps, distance Aubry and then managed his lead. Eisen follows Rebuttini like his shadow and takes advantage of an error in the parabolic to pass him to the next brake.

In the last lap, drama: Leblanc who had apparently won the race breaks his chain and gives up! Aubry takes first place and becomes champion of France, while Vincent Eisen is placed 2nd, vice-champion of France. Poulle, who started from the 2nd row, made his race behind Eisen and Rebuttini but too far to be able to do anything. He finished 4th and suddenly 3rd in the championship.

Moto Net: Vincent, you spoke before the race of a good mandatory start ?
Vincent Eisen: I had the best start but Detot got in my way and I went 5th. My first instinct was to stay on my wheels, but I didn’t like seeing Aubry and Leblanc go ahead! Unable to come back, I looked for 3rd place. When he made a fault on the parabolic, I knew it was now or never because he would be less sharp after a scare and so I passed him on Golf braking. I put some charcoal on to outrun him, which worked well, but we got back to some retarded people who stopped me and he managed to come back. I started again, I took some distance, but I was again braked by a retard and Rebuttini got me back together again! Knowing that his bike is more powerful than mine, I was wary of Hotel (the last pin before the finish, Editor’s note), but as Rebuttini told me after the race, I was better on braking and I was faster on a curve. I crossed the line without seeing that Leblanc was out, and then I discovered that I was 2nd! So it’s a great season, a great result with a bike behind in performance! For Leblanc, it’s unfortunate, but I had my share of problems too, it’s the race…

MN: difficult to finish a first season better !
VE: with a goal of doing within 10 at the start of the season, finishing runner-up for my first Open season, that’s great, we can say it! (laughs) Without neglecting the other drivers, however, it is a deserved result considering the whole season. I made a difference in difficult conditions, when the material is less important than the driving.

MN: what do you plan for next season ?
VE: it’s a question of budget … But with the results obtained on this material, and given the results of my opponents when they raced in Europe, I tell myself that I should be able to do between 5 and 10…

MN: See you soon on other podiums, this time international ?
VE: I just have to start doing my personal promotion! (laughs).
