Who tires the most … The rear tire of the YZF-R125 widens from 130 to 140 mm: it is an asset for the stability – in increase – and the look, but a significant constraint for the budget of the young motorcycle license A1. A few more years and the 125 cc will fit in 180 mm, like the "big ones" ?

Ergonomics. The handlebars – very elegant with its perforated support – are both more open and installed more horizontally. What "de-radicalize" the position, while the saddle pads are described as "thicker" but hardly comfortable. The rear footrests are also redesigned.

A brake, that’s all. Braking is based at the front on a radial caliper with 4-pistons and a disc of 292 mm, as in 2018. This powerful and biting device is assisted by a rear disc of 220 mm, which clamps a caliper equipped with new pads. Good point: the new flexible routing is more neat.

It fits well. The steel frame is identical, except for the rear which goes from 89 mm to 95 mm. The inverted 41 mm fork for its part receives new settings, of course described as more efficient. The shock absorber adjusts to preload.

Gas and gas. The single-cylinder also gets 1mm wider valves, a bigger throttle valve (28-30mm), a bigger airbox (2.9-5.5l), a redesigned exhaust and a more compact radiator. . Finally, the new anti-dribble clutch relieves the effort on the left lever and reduces blockages during downshifts.

All that for this ? Legislation A1 requires, the performances remain however limited to the regulatory 15 ch and a torque value of 11.5 Nm. Result: the Yamaha relaunches without much conviction on the upper reports. And this, while its exceptional chassis can handle double the power !

From the reserve. The steel fuel tank is reduced from a capacity of 11.5 liters to 11 liters on the new YZF-R125. This slight reduction in volume allows, among other things, to maintain the weight at 142 kg when fully loaded. Yamaha fortunately announces a reduction in consumption of "5%" thanks to the VVA.
