2019 Yamaha YZF-R 125: a real novelty !
The Yamaha YZF-R 125 is going full throttle for 2019 with a new engine equipped with a variable distribution unheard of in the category, as well as a revised cycle part and trim. Enough to take big "R" for this 125 sports motorcycle launched in 2008 and deeply revised in 2014 !
After the appetizer of the, and on the, Yamaha begins to launch its main courses with the, first real novelty in 2019. The redesign is copious: look modeled on the and, single cylinder now with variable valve timing, modified ergonomics and improved equipment !
- MNC test : Yamaha YZF-R125 2014, mini sports car with big Rs
- MNC file :
The YZF-R125 becomes the first 125cc motorcycle to receive a Variable Valve Actuation System. This "VVA" varies the position of the intake valve as a function of speed to optimize torque "from low revs", while improving performance at "higher" revs..
No quantified data is however communicated, which makes it impossible to compare with the previous vintage which developed the legal 15 hp at 9,000 rpm and 12.4 Nm of torque at 8,000 rpm. It should be noted that variable distribution seems fashionable in 2019 – and they are also adopting it -, no doubt in anticipation of the Euro5 standards to come in 2020.
The Yamaha YZF-R125 also features new instrumentation with engaged gear, a rear tire widened to 140mm and an improved rear brake (details below). The position is changing through a less brittle handlebar and a refined tank … but less bulky: from 11.5 to 11 liters in 2019.
It will be available "early 2019" in blue, black or white – with fluorescent yellow rims – at a price not yet communicated (€ 5,499 in 2018). Finally, the last "detailkitue": its front brake lever receives protection like Grand Prix motorcycles (photo below)! A first on a production sports car: the KTM RC125, Aprilia RS-4 and others may suffer…
No changes on the 2019 R1 and R6
Yamaha also specifies that its and will be available in "new colors in 2019", which means the absence of change on the supersport and the superbike of Iwata. In the long term, one can reasonably think that they will also inherit the variable distribution, for the moment only used by Suzuki on the in the big cubes….
