Sporty - Suzuki GSX-R 1000: Gextraordinarily yours! - Gex Bomb!

In 2001, the arrival of the GSX-R 1000 set the hypersports category on fire! Slightly behind in the face of the technological advances of its rivals, the Gex has mobilized all the attention of Suzuki and comes back sharp as ever ! Road and track test !

Gex Bomb !

If Yamaha and its YZF R1 undoubtedly pulled the category up in 1999, the replica of Hamamatsu’s coat of arms two years later definitively sealed the fundamentals of Hypersports: spearhead of a line initiated in 1985 with the GSX -750R, the first vintage of the 1000 "Gex" then catalyzes the arms race with its 160 hp for 170 kg !

Therefore, the world – at least that of sports fans! – will not be as before. With great reinforcement of ever lighter and torsionally resistant chassis, titanium valves and variable-length intake – we have some and the best … -, the four Japanese enter straight into a competition where performance and power-to-weight ratio reign supreme !

A sure bet, the 1000 GSX-R has always distinguished itself in the hearts of fans: on a French market of around ten thousand sports cars (600 and 1000 combined), the Suz ‘seduces every year between 1400 (2002, 2003 and 2006 ) and 1700 (2001, 2005, 2007) bikers! Flattering scores, envied by the Honda CBR1000RR and Kawasaki ZX-10R and that only the R1 was able to match – or even exceed in 2002, 2004 and 2006 – thanks to its sculptural lines and its surface-to-surface missile performance.

Over the years, the sporting flagship Suzuki continues to brilliantly blend a generous engine with surprising ergonomics for a pure-juice Superbike (read our test). However, dark clouds have come to obscure its beautiful trajectory: the competition has not hesitated to sink into radicalization and especially to outbid in terms of high technology….

However, to face the expressive ZX-10R, to the engine Cross-Plane of the last R1 (read our test) and the agility of a CBR 1000 RR and its incredible electronic ABS (read our test), Suzuki had to review its copy.

To meet the challenge, the Yellows provide "to start from a blank sheet !"to design this 2009 vintage … A leaf a tad blue and white all the same, because apart from a more compact and powerful engine (185 hp at 12,000 rpm and 11.9 m.kg of torque at 10,000 rpm / min) and a revised geometry for more traction and agility (longer swingarm, wheelbase reduced by 10 mm and weight reduced by around 5 kg), the technical sheet of the K9 does not contrast radically with the previous one model.
