TT2016: double blow for Hutchinson in SSP and STK
Beaten by Michael Dunlop in Superbike on Saturday, Ian Hutchinson took his revenge on Monday by winning in quick succession the first Supersport race of the Tourist Trophy 2016 on Yamaha R6, then the Superstock event on BMW S1000RR.
Beaten by Michael Dunlop in, Ian Hutchinson took his revenge on Monday by winning in quick succession the first Supersport race of the Tourist Trophy 2016 on Yamaha R6, then the Superstock event on BMW S1000RR.
Second in the 2016 TT opener, "Hutchy" largely dominated the first Supersport race on Monday on the Isle of Man, bringing his number of wins in this category to seven. Winner of two SSP events in 2015, Ian continues his momentum !
The only driver to have threatened Hutchinson at the start of the race, Michael Dunlop took 14 seconds longer to complete the four laps of the Supersport race. But the northern Irishman was finally downgraded during the post-race technical control of his own Yamaha.
Third, almost a minute behind the leader at the controls of his Kawasaki n ° 12, Dean Harrison thus inherits second place while James Hillier (Kawa n ° 3) climbs on the podium … for 7 tenths of a second! The "Top Five" is completed by the two Honda # 10 and # 1 Conor Cummins and John McGuinness.
Finally, it should be noted that three French drivers completed this first Supersport race on the Isle of Man: Julien Toniutti is ranked 34th on his R6, Xavier Denis 36th on his CBR and Morgan Govignon 42nd on his CBR as well..
Hutchison 2 – 1 Mr. Dunlop
In Superstock, the retirement of Michael Dunlop at the end of the first lap due to a selector failure greatly facilitated Hutchinson‘s race. The latter was nevertheless in great shape as he broke the category record, completing his first lap at an average of 133.908 mph, faster than on Superbike. !
After a second lap at 132.93 mph, the No. 4 BMW rider was more than 30 seconds ahead of James Hillier and was able to control the next two laps, dropping his average to a respectable 129 mph to pocket his 13th victory in the " TiTi ". Hillier on the contrary, had to fight hard until the checkered flag…
Credited with a six-second lead over Dean Harrison at the end of the second lap, the # 3 Kawasaki rider was only one second ahead with one lap from the end … he was finally beaten under two seconds by Harrison and his own ZX-10R # 12. Like "Hutchy", Harrison and Hillier each doubled their Supersport stake !
The battle for fourth place was also very intense, opposing four men from the middle of the race: John McGuinness on his No.1 Honda, Lee Johnston on his No.13 BMW, Gary Johnson on his No.7 BMW. and Michael Rutter on his BMW n ° 9.
Doubled – and inspired – by the "Ninja" Harrison at the end of the race, Rutter finally finished ahead of Johnson, McGuinness and … Connor Cummins, Johnston having been forced to retire on the fourth and final lap! Michael Dunlop’s brother William gets eighth place.
In the French clan, Xavier Denis won 37th place at the controls of his Kawasaki, Julien Toniutti finished 41st and Fabrice Miguet 46th.
