Trail - 2010 Versys test: Kawasaki corrects its aim - Everything (or almost) about the look

Launched at the end of 2006, the Versys did not meet the expected success. For 2010, Kawasaki has therefore refined its road trail and its communication with a new face, more comfort and an improved motorcycle image.. MNC checks: road test !

Everything (or almost) about the look

As a reminder, Site had rather well identified the Versys "first of the name" during its presentation in autumn 2006 (read our). A contact that potential buyers will take care to read again, since apart from cosmetics, the 2010 model is extremely close to the old model.

The mechanical modifications are mainly limited to the addition of a silentbloc at the rear upper mountings of the engine and rubber on the footrests (pilot and passenger please!) In order to limit the rise of vibrations from the twin in line. And it is clear that the feet and buttocks are now less tingling than on the old model.

Of course we still perceive slight tingling, especially in the hands around 7,000 rpm, which results in a troubled image in the new mirrors. But we easily forgive the little Kawette: the accelerations and times that it distils from 4000 rpm are well worth a few small tickles !

Although its housings have been redesigned, just like the exit of its pot placed under the pretty swingarm, the engine of the new Versys remains perfectly identical to the old version. It therefore still does not accept to resume under 2500 rpm…

But this relative lack of flexibility – compared to a 4-cylinder – in no way penalizes the approval of the engine derived from the ER-6. It will even charm the vast majority of users, whether they are looking for smoothness and ease of operation for the city, liveliness and vigor for fighting on small departmental roads, or even endurance and enthusiasm for longer trips (in 6th at 6000 rpm). / min, it cruises at 130 km / h).

Regarding the cycle part, the new shock absorber adjustment is passed, it must be admitted, a bit unnoticed: firmed up so that we can have fun on the small Sardinian roads, the rear suspension of our test Versys offered more or less the same services as the old one.

Nevertheless, in "factory" setting, the Greens say that the emphasis is on comfort to better absorb the bumps on the roads … and the countless donkey rides that dot the city center !

Adjustable in preload and rebound – like the fork – the shock absorber can therefore adapt to the pace of each individual: needless to say that in the dry, it is rather fast … And the Versys did it. again with honors !
