Moto Tour Series Tunisia D2: start on the hats of wheels !
After the official start on Avenue Bourguiba in Tunis, with a few drops of rain but to the cheers of the public who came to attend the event, the first selective stage took place this Friday between Monastir and Douz.
This grandiose departure was honored by the presence of the governor of Tunis, Bouallègue Chadly, accompanied by the secretary of state for sports, Imed Jabri, and other partners and representatives of sponsors. This Moto Tour Series Tunisia also serves as the final round of the Tunisian Rally Championship, with the participation of about fifteen Tunisian competitors..
The event takes place under the mixed aegis of the French (FFM) and Tunisian (FTM) motorcycle sports federations, whose president, Mehdi Bach-Hamba, was also present at the start..

This Franco-Tunisian collaboration deserves to continue this momentum in the years to come. The agreement being in good shape between the president of the French rally commission, Gilles Planchon Tourly (on the left below) and the president of the FTM (on the right), there is no reason why this " marriage "is not moving in the right direction !
As soon as they disembarked at the port of La Goulette, the participants joined Avenue Bourguiba in a convoy to then stand on the podium for the official start of the rally. A long-awaited moment by the countless spectators present despite the fine rain that settled in early in the afternoon.
The connection to Monastir then took place as direct and smoothly, the competitors were in good condition for the big stage the next day, the first really selective stage of the rally with nearly 500 km to cover including two specials: Sidi Saad and Senez.
At the arrival of this first real stage, under the sun of southern Tunisia at the Sahara Douz hotel (not far from the Douz key, which represents the key to the Sahara gates) and in view of, it’s Yannis Peyron (KTM 1190 Adventure) who would seize the pole of the provisional general.
A classification subject to verifications which will be carried out during the classifications tomorrow evening, because without a cell at the start it seems that there are some mistakes in the first lap of the day.
The first special, Sidi Saad, was however won ("subject to") by Jeremy Barnoin (KTM 990 SMT). Jeremy had already stood out during the last Moto Tour (French) with excellent stage rankings.
The stage took place without too many setbacks, apart from the fall of Christopher Auzoux (Triumph Street Triple), just after the finish line of the first special: the n ° 40 made a spectacular exit from road, crossing the ditch in complete control but hitting a pebble on the way back on the road: ruined front rim, which results in a majestic flight of its pilot probably too "fast" when passing the checkered flag … Christopher s’ will come out unscathed, hallelujah, but the bike will not start again, rim HS !
Another regrettable abandonment: that of the only sidecar in the rally, the Yamaha YZF coupling of the couple Pauline and Damien Lepage (Pauline on the handlebars!), Who had made a remarkable 22nd lap before being forced to retire following a crankcase breakage…
The second special would have been won by Yannis Peyron (KTM 1190 Adventure), securing the stage victory of the day by 7 tenths of a second ahead of Jean-Marc Papon (Yamaha MT10 SP).
On the side of the drivers competing in the Tunisian championship, Ramzi Cherif (Suzuki 1000 GSXR) would be (still under reserve) first Tunisian of the stage.
Tomorrow, serious things will continue with the Douz – Tataouine stage (420 km including 5 specials). Let us hope that the rankings are reliable to begin to take a more serious look at the leaders. First departure scheduled at 7:00 am: it will be hot (sun almost guaranteed), stay tuned !
