Just days after their tests in Jerez, Spain, the World Superbike riders took part yesterday and today (Monday) in two new test sessions at the nearby Portimao circuit in Portugal. The lap times have just fallen…

Outpaced by his teammate Kawasaki n ° 66 last week during the, Jonathan Rea recovers his place of "Number One" at the end of the new winter tests in Portimao! The three-time Superbike world champion covered the Portuguese track today (Monday) in 1 ‘41.485…

For the record, the ruthless "JR" had won the Superpole last October in 1 ‘41.430, far ahead of the two Aprilia de Laverty and Savadori. This time, at the end of the second day of testing, the Ninja n ° 1 is only a few tenths of a second ahead of two very different competitors..

While Tom Sykes was relegated to almost a second, Leon Camier in his # 2 Honda took an unexpected and encouraging second place, 14 hundredths of a second behind Rea. Alex Lowes and his Yamaha complete a 100% British podium, still 15 hundredths behind Rea..

Toprak Razgatlioglu is the other big and pleasant surprise of these Portuguese tests as he hoists his private Kawasaki to 5th position, one breath away from the factory Yamaha of Michael van der Mark. Our sole representative in Superbike, Loris Baz, signs the 14th stopwatch on the virtual timesheet (see below).

Small precision however, while awaiting the final classification as well as the declarations of the principal interested parties which facilitate the analysis of the times by specifying their mounting of tire – qualifying or race?! -: some riders rode with two different motorcycles / transponders !

Taking into account the Rea and Lowes duplicates, our "Bazooka" – oddly classified in the Superstock 1000 category! – can thus claim the 12th best time of the second day. We especially remember that Loris and his BMW n ° 76 are 1.3 seconds behind the leader Rea. They were 1.8 seconds behind Sykes after testing Jerez, on a slightly shorter circuit !

Note also the presence in these winter tests of Mike di Meglio on his Yamaha R6 prepared by the French team GMT94. The GP125 champion finishes less than a tenth of the Top 3 in the Supersport category dominated by Ayrton Badovini on MV Agusta !
