No return to WSBK for Troy Bayliss
Currently 5th with Haga and 10th with Fabrizio in the World Superbike, the official Ducati team is struggling this year: so much so that when the retired Troy Bayliss takes the handlebars of the 1198 at Mugello during a private practice session and slams a stopwatch from beyond the grave (1’51.9, only eight tenths of the fastest lap …
Currently 5th with Haga and 10th with Fabrizio in the World Superbike, the official Ducati team is struggling this year: so much so that when the retired Troy Bayliss takes the handlebars of the 1198 at Mugello during a private practice session and slams a stopwatch from beyond the grave (1’51.9, only eight tenths of Rossi’s fastest race lap in 2009!), the small world of Superbike is agitated and already imagines the return of the great "Baylisstic" to the competition (read) !
On a cloudy note, the three-time world champion (2001, 2006 and 2008) does not refute this idea, especially since he would start to get bored at the wheel of the V8 Supercars with which he tries to occupy his free time….
But the famous n ° 21 would have got a little carried away and on reflection, taking the handlebars of a bomb of more than 200 hp at 41 years old no longer seems such a good idea….
Thus, during a press conference organized during World Ducati Week (read MNC of May 12, 2010: everyone at World Ducati Week!), The Australian rider explained that after a new practice session in Misano – where things would have gone far less well than in Mugello – it appeared to him that despite his passion for racing, his career was definitely behind him.
"This year, I lined up several tests with the Superbike: I went to Mugello, I jumped on the bike and we all know it went very well", explains Bayliss to our British colleagues at MCN.
“Everything seemed so easy to me that I started talking about a comeback: I think I started my own rumor! I love motorcycles and I love winning races, but I realized that it is not always so simple: during my last tests, it was not so easy and we went in circles ", admits the champion.
"It completely dissuaded me and I realized that I had spoken too quickly: I don’t want to come back for a run and I don’t want to play wild cards. I’m retired and I’m happy like that!", sliced the sympathetic Australian.
