Extremely fast during free practice, Jordi Torres was beaten in the Superpole by Tom Sykes. Third fastest this morning on the Sepang circuit, our champion Sylvain Guintoli will place his Honda n ° 1 on the front row, for the first time this season !
Best time at the end of the three free practice sessions on Friday and Saturday morning, Jordi Torres was also the fastest on the track this afternoon (this morning in France) during the first half of the final Superpole event ( SP2), on racing tires therefore.
Author of the best time in FP4 (fourth free practice), Tom Sykes was then second in the provisional classification ahead of Jonathan Rea, Leon Haslam, Sylvain Guintoli, Max Biaggi, Alex Lowes, Niccolo Canepa, Chaz Davies, Randy de Puniet and Matteo Baiocco.
Once the qualifying tires were on – they can be recognized by their yellow stripe – Tom Sykes was the fastest, beating Jordi Torres at the very end of the session! The Ninja n ° 66 thus signs his fourth pole of the season 2015, the 28th of his career WSBK.
Behind "Super Sykes", the rookie Jordi Torres is not the only driver to sign his best qualifying session of the year: Sylvain Guintoli, at the head of the SP2 one minute from the end, reaches the first row of the grid malaise! Our "World Number One" will also be in the race pace ?
Coming to take his marks on the Sepang circuit last week, Max Biaggi was at the top of the timesheet on Friday morning but was a distant 10th place in SP2 while the checkered flag was already floating on the finish line…
Thanks to a perfectly clean final loop, however, the Roman Emperor will place his factory RSV4 at the head of the second row, ahead of the GSX-R1000 n ° 22 and the 1199 Panigale n ° 7. Alex Lowes’ performance is quite respectable: fallen at the end of FP3, the Suzuki rider had to go through SP1.
Much slower – at ease? – on the long Sepang circuit and on the small Laguna Seca track where he took pole and then won the double three weeks ago, Chaz Davies risks finding the two races of tomorrow particularly long at the controls of his Ducati…
Almost a second slower than "Major Tom", Jonathan Rea and Leon Haslam only qualified in 7th and 8th position respectively. We note that the Ninja n ° 65 almost fell twice during his first lap launched on soft rubber. Naturally cooled, "JR" did not attack in his second loop…
The two Ducati Althea teammates, Niccolo Canepa and Matteo Baiocco complete the Top 10 of this grid. The Italians n ° 59 and 15 will start from the bottom of the third row and from the top of the fourth row. Fourth time in FP3, Randy de Puniet will finally start from 11th position.
Seventh in free practice, Ayrton Badovini should have taken part in Superpole 2. Unfortunately, during FP4, the BMW Italia driver collided with Matteo Baiocco in the chicane at the start of the course and was violently ejected by his S1000RR. It will not roll over the weekend.
Third in SP1 therefore deprived of SP2, Michael van den Mark will only start from 13th place. The Supersport world champion will precede in fifth place the only MV Agusta Leon Camier rider and the only Kawasaki Go Eleven rider Roman Ramos.
Without his fall in SP1, Leandro Mercado could have hoped for better than his 16th place. The Argentinian lost the front in the middle of the fifth curve but the incident could have been more serious: sliding through the sixth corner, his Ducati Barni n ° 36 almost mowed down Baiocco while on his way to SP2.
The sixth row will be completed by two ZX-10R: the n ° 44 of David Salom and the n ° 45 of Gianluca Vizziello. Our third representative, Christophe Ponsson, will place his own Ninja n ° 23 on the 19th place of the grid, in front of Gabor Rizmayer’s BMW.
Author of the 21st fastest time at the end of the three free sessions, the replacement – for the entire end of the season – of Santiago Barragan, Alex Phillis, will start from this same place in both races tomorrow. Imre Toth will start alone from the last row.
See you tomorrow on the Site to follow the two Superbike races live (start of the first at 7:30 am, French time), as well as the Supersport race. Stay connected !
