The twelfth round of the 2012 World SBK took place on Sunday at the Nurburgring. To complete our reports, here are the statements of the SBK riders, our analyzes and the video summaries of the Superbike and Supersport races..

Analysis of the World Superbike at the Nurburgring

After that of "Guintoli" at Assen at the end of April and that of "Baz" at Silverstone at the beginning of August, a new name has appeared in the list of World Superbike race winners. On the occasion of the second round played this Sunday at the Nurburgring, "Davies" entered the big leagues. !

Admittedly, Chaz Davies is well known to lovers of motorcycle speed: he rode five years in GP 125 and 250, expatriated three seasons with the Americans and put his butt on three times in the Desmosedici of MotoGP in 2007. But it is since his arrival in the World Supersport in 2010 that the Welshman has really broken through.

Fourth on the handlebars of a Triumph Daytona 675 deemed less competitive – at this high level – than the Honda CBR600RR and Kawasaki ZX-6R, Chaz dominated the 2011 season at the controls of the Yamaha R6 which had led Crutchlow to the title … in 2009.

Davies persists and signs … at BMW !

Promoted to World Superbike within the same Parkingo team, wonderfully well managed by Giuliano Rovelli, the Supersport world champion started off on the wrong foot – the wrong hand, broken during the Australian qualifiers! – with the Aprilia RSV4 … But it has caught up very well since !

Since the Salt Lake City event, the results of No. 19 have continued to improve. The rookie is even the only rider to be on the podium during the last three outings! Thanks to his two third places and his victory, Chaz Davies is now ahead of Davide Giugliano, Superstock 1000 champion and "rookie" in the category just like him..

Thanks to his excellent performances also, Chaz secured a place in one of the most prominent teams of the 2013 grid: the semi-official team of BMW Italia alongside Marco Melandri. The announcement cuts the rumors of the arrival of Ben Spies at Behème !

"We are happy to welcome Chaz to the BMW Motorrad family"said Andrea Buzzoni, Managing Director of BMW Motorrad Italia on Sunday evening."By climbing the provisional standings, Chaz demonstrated his talent and speed".

"His 2011 World Supersport title was impressive", continues the future boss of the BMW 2013 team,"This season in WSBK, it didn’t take long for him to win his first race. We are convinced that Marco and Chaz will form a top team and that we will have with the BMW S1000RR one of the strongest packages in the championship".

This year already, Marco and the S1000RR form a sacred duo. Unfortunately for the Italian and his German companion, their results lack consistency to completely dominate the 2012 championship. The double bubble this weekend is a blatant demonstration of this….

In MotoGP already, Marco was feverish and could move from the stage of contender for the title (as was the case in 2005) to that of a simple extra, and this from one weekend to the next! Arrived in Germany with a total of 308.5 points, the n ° 33 leaves with the same sum. Hard.

Fortunately for Melandri, his rival n ° 3 did not have the long awaited perfect Sunday: placed in pole position and author of the best time in the race, Biaggi started very well by winning the first round but during the second, he was stuck in the carpet…

Melandri loses her mind, Sykes stays on the lookout

Technically, the Aprilia rider rather stumbled against the bumps cunningly placed in the entrance to the chicane at the end of the course. To see the machines – Superbike as Supersport – tumbling wildly in this precise place all weekend, we expected a "max" of falls … but much less to the fall of Max !

Left in last position, the leather stained with dust, the fairing chipped, his pride chipped, but the knife firmly grasped between his teeth, the Italian Pirate finally finished in 13th place in the second round. Who knows, these three points scored on Sunday afternoon may be those of his sixth world title, the second in WSBK !

Finally, the most consistent of the three men still in contention for the 2012 title turns out to be Tom Sykes. The English pilot that Site nicknamed "Mister On-Off" a year ago – understand Mister it goes or it breaks – was right to keep despite his inexorable and frustrating drops in speed during the two rounds.

On the constructors’ side, the great winner of the German event is undoubtedly Aprilia. With a historic treble and a double provided by the lieutenants of Biaggi – Davies and Laverty -, the firm of Noale not only scores the 50 maximum points, but also prevents its competitors from collecting big points !

Conversely, the leader since the second round in Brno last July, BMW, had his worst weekend of the season, scoring only 16 points. The S1000RR – four on the track – are now 7.5 points lower than the RSV4 – three on the field

Third, Ducati gradually runs out of steam and sees Kawasaki approaching dangerously: the Bologna Reds total 342 points (377 for BMW and 384.5 for Aprilia) against 322.5 points for the Greens of Akashi…

In his statement on Sunday, the 2011 world champion Carlos Checa does not hesitate to revive the debate: is the Ducati weighted with 6 kilograms worth – still – a 4-cylinder? Check it out in two weeks in Portimao! Stay connected !
