World Superbike: the South African event will not be replaced
The attempt by the FIM and the Dorna WSBK Organization to replace the October 19 meeting in Phakisa (South Africa) with another ultimately failed. Sykes and Van den Mark are therefore getting closer to the 2014 Superbike and Supersport titles… Or not ?!
Fifteen days after announcing the cancellation of the South African World Superbike event but the confirmation of the final in Qatar (read), the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) and Dorna WSBK Organization (DWO) warn that the southern round -africaine will not ultimately be replaced by another event. But this announcement is fraught with consequences…
As a reminder, Tom Sykes is at the top of the provisional classification of the Superbike category at the end of – the last of which took place at. The English Ninja totals 325 points against 281 for Sylvain Guintoli, 261 for Jonathan Rea, 253 for Loris Baz and 217 for Marco Melandri.
With more than three events to go (Jerez, Magny-Cours and Losail), Chaz Davies is therefore mathematically out of the race, the 150 points awarded to the possible but improbable winner of the last six races not allowing him to catch up on the race. "Number One", which we also see poorly immobilized at 325 points.
In Supersport – with only one race per weekend – Jules Cluzel and Florian Marino would become the only ones able to snatch the crown from the stunning Michaël van den Mark. The Honda rider’s counter shows 160 points, respectively 53 and 67 more than our compatriots on MV Agusta and Kawasaki. As for the fourth in the standings, Sofuoglu, he is already at 77 lengths (read)
But be careful, because "the SBK Commission will discuss the possible options to compensate for the points that were made unavailable following the cancellation of the South African round for the WSBK and WSS categories, and more information on this will be made public shortly".
What sleight of hand could the organizers of the World Superbike championship perform, who have already had to erase from the 2014 calendar no less than two events (and South Africa, not to mention)? A draw ? A scratch card? A blindfold tour of the periphery !? Business to follow on Site of course: stay connected !
"As previously announced, the award ceremony for the WSBK and WSS categories will take place in Doha, Qatar, the day after the races, on the evening of Monday, November 3.", adds the FIM in a press release."The winners of the FIM Superstock 1000 Cups, FIM STK 600 European Championship and European Junior Cup will receive their trophies in Magny-Cours, France, on Sunday 5 October.".
