WSBK 2016: the Monza event canceled, possibly replaced
The organizers of the World Superbike have just announced that the Monza event, scheduled for the end of July, should be canceled and will not be replaced by the ‘fuse’ Vallelunga. The FIM and DWO are therefore following other tracks. Explanations, without fish…
The year 2016 was to mark the return of the Monza circuit to the World Superbike program. Scheduled for the weekend of July 22 to 24, this third Italian event (after Imola and Misano) will ultimately not take place … And it’s unfortunately not an April Fool’s Day !
Unlike Troy Bayliss who took advantage of April 1 to feign private tests at Monza – precisely! – on a new Ducati (see opposite), the organizers of the World Superbike are not joking by announcing the cancellation of the 9th round of the …
"Considering the modifications necessary to allow the WorldSBK paddock to return to Monza, all parties concerned have asked the FIM and DWO for additional time to analyze the project in more depth with the aim of confirming its feasibility in the near future.", specify the officials.
To make matters worse, the Vallelunga "fuse" will not be able to fulfill its functions: according to the Dorna WordSBK Organization, the contract with its repair circuit "will not be activated due to difficulty in planning and changes required to ensure a World SBK round in Vallelunga runs".
The International Motorcycling Federation and the promoter do not give up, however: "the replacement of the Italian round is still under evaluation. Confirmation of replacement location and date will be offered by May 1 to allow final confirmation of the 2016 WorldSBK calendar".
In the meantime, let Superbike fans rest assured: the third event of the WSBK 2016 has indeed started this morning on the Motorland circuit of Aragon (Spain). Site will also be there, invited by Pirelli for the official presentation of its new Diablo Rosso III and its test on the fabulous track on Monday … Stay tuned !
