Maintained under pressure by Rea throughout the second round of WorldSBK 2016 at Donington Park, Sykes did not crack. He therefore won his fourth consecutive double at home! Dropped by Kawasaki, Davies completes a 100% British podium…

Second Donington Park Superbike Race 2016

Poleman Tom Sykes got a better start than in the first heat and took the lead ahead of Chaz Davies, Jonathan Rea, Davide Giugliano, Nicky Hayden, Lorenzo Savadori, Leon Camier, Xavi Fores, Cameron Beaubier and Michael van den Mark.

From the first lap, Sykes escapes in the lead while Rea and Davies play fairings as the Foggy Esses approach! A Davies gap in Goddards gives Rea a second place. Ninja n ° 1 immediately melts towards n ° 66.

The two Ducatis were quickly dropped by the Kawasaki on the 2nd lap. Hayden and Savadori, on the other hand, remain in the wake of the two factory Ducatis. Camier is not very far either. Follow Fores, Beaubier, Van den Mark and the rest of the peloton, still quite compact.

Nicky Hayden dives his Fireblade n ° 69 under the Panigale n ° 34 of Giugliano in Coppice and opens the door to Savadori: the Italian and his Aprilia n ° 32 take the opportunity to overtake Davide. The poor Roman is not at the end of his sentences since he is immediately put under pressure by Camier !

In front, Rea does not leave the rear wheel of his teammate. Davies is more than a second behind the two official Kawasaki at the start of the 4th lap: the Welshman and his pursuers turn half a second slower than the two Ninjas in the lead…

Beaubier gained a place under braking on the penultimate Melbourne hairpin. Undoubtedly frustrated not to have completed his first round in WSBK yesterday, the American champion wants to shine this Sunday. He occupies eighth place, a second and a half behind Giugliano and Camier. Wild card Matthieu Lussiana joins the pits in the 6th round.

In the middle of the 7th lap, Camier shifts at the exit of turn 6 and manages to overtake Giugliano in the following curve: the hideously fast and blind Coppice! The English n ° 2 thus hoists his MV Agusta in sixth position and is three seconds behind Savadori and Hayden who are competing for 4th place..

Third since the end of the first lap, Davies is halfway between the Hayden-Savadori duo and the lead, the inseparable Sykes and Rea … Tom and Jonathan may have the same equipment, their trajectories are very different: "Johnny" breaks his trajectories less and hits his teammate in the middle of a curve…

About fifteen seconds later, Torres got lost in the Fogarty chicane and went straight ahead, narrowly avoiding Van den Mark and Brookes, who were competing for eighth place. Jordi takes the regulatory loophole and sets off just in front of West then 12th on Sylvain Barrier‘s Kawasaki.

On the only official Yamaha – for the record, Lowes was declared unfit yesterday – Beaubier is in solid 10th place. Sylvain Guintoli’s replacement is just discovering the world championship and its Pirelli tires, the factory R1 and its Magneti Marelli electronics! Brookes overtakes Van den Mark at the end of the 16th round.

With 8 laps to go, Sykes is half a second ahead of Rea. But at the end of the next round, "the ruthless JR" halved this gap and found himself again a few meters from his target. One lap later, a frightening drift from the rear of the No.1 Kawa into Turn 5 doesn’t even calm Rea….

Jonathan Rea even sets off a braking attack from Melbourne … But in the next hairpin, the "Number One" will flirt with the outside of the track! The half-second of delay is however quickly erased by the Northern Irishman. But this one does not retry his luck at the end of the next loop.

Four seconds behind the two ZX-10Rs, Davies must accelerate to counter Savadori’s return: the RSV4 n ° 32 is only a big second behind the Panigale n ° 7 … Six seconds later, Hayden battle closes against Camier for fifth place !

In front, Sykes had an excellent penultimate lap and was several steps ahead of Rea. The last loop confirms Tom’s superiority over Jonathan. Davies manages to keep Savadori at bay. Hayden on the contrary, does not resist Camier who enters again in his national "Top Five".

Sykes’ advance over Rea is such at the end of the last lap that Ninja n ° 66 gives himself a devastating "wheelie"! Thanks to this new well-deserved success, Sykes equaled the record for consecutive victories obtained on the same track: the King Fogarty had won eight consecutive times at Assen … The King Sykes signed four double at Donington Park !

Fallen – twice! – in the first round yesterday, Chaz Davies finished this second race in third position. The 16 points collected are not enough for him to keep second place in the provisional classification: Tom Sykes’ counter shows 237 points, that of "Chazie" 231.

Thanks to his two new podiums this weekend, Jonathan Rea increased his lead in the championship: arrived with 44 points more than Davies, he left with 56 more than Sykes. The reigning world champion therefore begins the second half of the season with a solid lead..

Next points distribution: in three weeks in Italy, on the Misano circuit. We hope to find Sylvain Guintoli – as well as his teammate Alex Lowes – and Sylvain Barrier there! Stay connected…
