Second Superbike Misano race 2016
Jonathan Rea took off perfectly from his second place on the grid and turned into the first corner in front of Alex Lowes … But poleman Tom Sykes passed the No. 22 Yamaha on the outside in the second corner and dived inside the Kawasaki n ° 1 in the third corner !
Sykes thus leads in front of Rea, Lowes and Fores, briefly mounted in third position. When braking in Quercia, Markus Reiterberger bumps into Chaz Davies’ rear wheel and is violently ejected by his BMW n ° 21 … The German champion falls heavily on his back but gets off the track on his feet. Phew !
At the controls of his factory Ducati n ° 34, Giugliano attacks the private Ducati n ° 12 of Fores on the 2nd pass through the big chicane. Michael van den Mark and Chaz Davies threaten the Spanish in turn … Lorenzo Savadori and Nicky Hayden are a few lengths away…
While he has just passed in front of VDM and puts the pressure on Fores, Davies falls like his teammate Giugliano the day before in Superpole: "Chazie" loses the front in the right of Tramonto … Van den Mark passes just next to the Welsh but can not avoid his Ducati and crash too !
One lap later, Lowes got into a big heat at Quercia’s recovery: he had his third place stolen by Giugliano then passed Fores. Sykes and Rea parade in front, a second and a half ahead of Giugliano. One and two seconds from Davide are respectively Fores and Lowes.
Savadori, Hayden and Torres fight at the gate of the Top 5, five seconds behind the leaders. Returning to the pits after his crash, Davies must abandon the race. Van den Mark is in 17th place but Abraham and Schmitter are in the sights of the No.60 Honda…
The 5th lap is led by Jordi Torres: the "Spanish Elvis" sways and shifts in each turn, desperately looking for an opening on R1 n ° 22! Placed at several lengths from S1000RR n ° 81, Nicky Hayden takes the opportunity to get closer to his Fireblade n ° 69, slowly but surely…
The laps then follow one another without the Top 10 moving. In front, Jonathan Rea does not leave the rear wheel of Tom Sykes. The northern Irishman has no trouble following his English teammate … who keeps some in the grip for the last laps ?!
The two factory Kawasaki n ° 66 and n ° 1 keep their second and a half ahead of the official Ducati n ° 34. Xavi Fores and his private Panigale n ° 12 are four seconds behind the third step of the podium but cannot hope to climb on it, barring an incident…
Four seconds later, Lorenzo Savadori leads the turbulent group made up of Alex Lowes, Jordi Torres and Nicky Hayden: four nationalities and four manufacturers are fighting for the Top 5! At the exit of Quercia, the Italian is shaken by his Aprilia: Lowes completes the 14th lap in fifth position.
With five laps to go, Rea shifts to the outside of Sykes in the first corner and dives inside his teammate in the second corner, locking in his first place perfectly in the third corner. "Johnny" just lit the fire…
The "Number One" of the discipline quickly escapes from n ° 66: from a small second at the end of the 16th lap, his lead climbs to two big seconds at the start of the 18th! Sykes is unable to retaliate and lets go completely in the next loop…
Behind, Nicky Hayden manages to overtake Jordi Torres and now aims Lorenzo Savadori placed in the aspiration of Lowes who still clings to his fifth place … In the penultimate lap however, the poor Englishman is overtaken by his three pursuers !
Jonathan Rea crossed the finish line perched on his rear wheel, far ahead of Tom Sykes and Davide Giugliano. Xavi Fores takes a remarkable fourth place on the handlebars of his Ducati Barni while Lorenzo Savadori finally gives Aprilia fifth place.
Nicky Hayden and Jordi Torres finish one breath away from the Italian duo, Alex Lowes is content with eighth place and his teammate Niccolo Canepa (replacing Sylvain Guintoli) can be satisfied with ninth place! Michael van den Mark finishes in an unexpected tenth place after a courageous comeback.
At the head of the provisional classification since the opening of the season in Australia, "the ruthless JR" took advantage of his third double of the year to increase his lead in the championship to 66 points. Tom Sykes (n ° 66) will appreciate the wink of his teammate … or not.
Missed out on his test at Donington Park, Chaz Davies was supposed to bounce back in front of fans of his employer Ducati. Unfortunately, the Welshman leaves Misano with 99 points behind the leader, the equivalent of four wins. But there are only ten races left … and Rea never seemed so strong !
The next World Superbike points distribution will take place in three weeks at the Laguna Seca circuit in the United States. The event will be to follow again on Site: stay connected !
