Super Sykes strikes again: the n ° 66 Ninja took advantage of the eighth WorldSBK event in Misano to score his sixth pole of the season (!) And set the new SBK track record. He dominates his teammate Rea and the private Fores… Unlike the Aprilia IodaRacing, Ducati Aruba, Honda WSBK and Yamaha Pata teams…

Super Sykes strikes again: the n ° 66 Ninja took advantage of the eighth WorldSBK event in Misano to score his sixth pole of the season (!) And set the new SBK track record. He dominates his teammate Rea and the private Fores…

Unlike the teams, the official Kawasaki team did not perform tests at Misano last week, but were at least as profitable !

Indeed, Tom Sykes and Jonathan Rea have just hoisted their ZX-10Rs to the top of the starting grid of the second Italian WSBK event (whose first race starts in a few moments, the second tomorrow at noon!), Ahead of the unexpected Panigale prepared by the private Barni team and piloted by the IDM 2014 champion, Xavi Fores.

Almost unbeatable in qualifying this year, "Super Sykes" signs the 36th pole position of his career. He is making giant strides – green …. – towards the Troy Corser record: 43 poles on the clock. This afternoon, the n ° 66 will race first after a fourth victory in five races !

Placed alongside his teammate on the grid, Jonathan Rea will seek to get him back on the top step of the podium, which he has not climbed for two months (doubled in Assen on April 17) but which he has grazed three weeks ago at Donington (in the second round, read our).

Third fastest time on qualifying tires, Xavi Fores was also third on "hard" tires during the motorcycles’ first outing in Superpole 2. Will the Spanish rider be able to maintain this pace during the two races and aim for the Top 3? Mystery and Pirelli Ball…

Back in competition after being sidelined from the Donington Park races due to a collarbone deemed too weak by the World Superbike medical team, Alex Lowes really didn’t go far from the front row (less than two hundredths of a second !).

The n ° 22 of the Yamaha team will therefore place his factory R1 in the lead of the second row, in front of the RSV4 n ° 32 of the reigning Superstock champion Lorenzo Savadori, and the CBR1000RR n ° 69 of the 2006 MotoGP champion Nicky Hayden (Who else ?).

The fastest driver at the end of the first day, the "Kentucky Legend" had better get off to a good start to hang on to the wheel of the very best … and to protect themselves from the attacks of Davide Giugliano, Leon Camier and Chaz Davies who make up the third place but aim for the Top 5 in their "home" races.

Davide Giugliano in particular, will be keen to shine in front of his audience and to erase his blunder in SP2: the Roman fell in his first lap but was fortunately able to take back control of his motorcycle (only one per rider in WorldSBK, as a reminder !) and join the stands to check its condition.

Starting again with the attack 4 minutes from the end, just before the majority of the drivers embarked on their second series of fast laps – this time wearing soft tires – the n ° 34 briefly occupied the top of the standings but n was not really in the rhythm … Can he find it in the race ?

Disappointment also for the rookie Marcus Reiterberger who was on Friday evening in second position on the timesheet behind Nicky "I am also starting in WSBK, officially" Hayden. The German Superbike champion finally signs the 11th fastest time in the Superpole and sits between Michael van den Mark and Jordi Torres.

A few minutes earlier in SP1, a mechanical problem on Al Sulaiti’s Ninja n ° 11 had caused the red flags to come out, 47 seconds before the end of the session. West, Ramos and Canepa who were in ambush to steal Savadori and Camier the two tickets for SP2 were therefore unable to complete their final loop….

The Australian replacement of Sylvain Barrier at Kawa Pedercini, the titular driver n ° 4 of the Kawasaki GoEleven team and the Italian replacement of Sylvain Guintoli at Yam Pata must therefore be satisfied with the fifth place. They will start in front of Brookes, Menghi – back on his Ducati VFT! – and Schmitter, Abraham, Sebestyen and Al Sulaiti, Szkopek, Vizziello and De Angelis…
