A little more jostled by his opponents than in the first round, Jonathan Rea was again unbeatable this afternoon in Assen. The No.65 Ninja takes his sixth win of the season and takes dangerously off the championship.

Second Superbike race

Tom Sykes gets off to a good start but Jonathan Rea puts the brakes on him at the end of the short straight and takes control of the race! Follow Leon Haslam, Chaz Davies, Alex Lowes, Van den Mark – a little better off than in the first round -, Xavi Fores, Sylvain guintoli, Jordi Torres, Leon Camier, etc..

Sykes attacks Rea at the very end of the first round and overtakes his teammate! Johnny tries to recover his first place on the first braking of the 2nd lap but the n ° 66 holds up! Behind the two Kawasaki officials, the Ducati n ° 7 climbs in third position to the deficit of the n ° 91 Aprilia which does not admit defeat…

Behind the four British drivers, the stage local Van den Mark distances himself from the rest of the peloton commanded by Lowes. Suzuki rider n ° 22 is ahead of Fores, Guintoli, Torres and Camier on the MV Agusta which passes Jordi at the start of the second lap !

"JR" hesitates to take advantage of a mouse hole opened by Sykes in a rapid sequence but changes his mind and loses a few lengths. The n ° 65 quickly made up for his little blunder, however, and started the 3rd lap in the aspiration of his teammate. Davies sticks to championship leader, but has to beware of Haslam sticky…

Van den Mark whips his Fireblade to stay in contact with the Top 4. Alex Lowes does the same with his "Gex" and keeps a few lengths behind the Dutchman. Nico Terol falls heavily and is evacuated from the circuit on a stretcher … De Puniet is 17th, Ponsson 18th.

Still in the lead on lap 5, Sykes is chased by five drivers: Rea and Davies are effectively joined by Haslam, Van den Mark and Lowes. Guintoli wins a place by overtaking Davide Giugliano’s replacement, German Superbike champion Xavi Fores.

Sykes pushes his Kawasaki to its limits. When sliding out of Hoge Heide, the n ° 66 tumbles less quickly in the last section but his teammate at n ° 65 remains wisely behind. In the background, Van den Mark inside Haslam braking the first corner. The 8th round has just been launched.

The n ° 60 Honda finds itself within a second of a second podium occupied by three Britons: Tom Sykes who seems to be attacking very hard, Jonathan Rea more on restraint and Chaz Davies in observation … Before the halfway point, at the 10th lap (out of 21), "Magic Michael" lodged in Davies’ aspi.

Tired of seeing Rea stay behind Sykes, Davies overtook # 65 on lap 11! Van den Mark ignites his audience by pretending to outflank Rea outside Ramshoek but cannot pass the Kawasaki rider. Just ahead, Davies stumbles in turn on Sykes.

Finally, Rea returns to Davies by placing his Kawa ‘under the Ducati in the last chain of super-fast lefts at the end of the course! In the next chicane, VDM almost crashed, touching Davies’ rear wheel! Hot…

One lap later, Johnny replicates his incredible attack in Ramshoek and takes the reins of the race! Sykes lost three places in the 15th round, passed by Davies, Haslam and Van den Mark at three different places on the circuit … Hard for the morale of the 2013 champion.

With six laps to go, Haslam won another place, passing Davies on the circuit’s first braking. The n ° 91 fits immediately in the wheel of the n ° 65, but the n ° 7 and the n ° 60 are just behind it! The n ° 66 is more behind. Our "Number One" is sixth, more than six seconds behind the leader.

Davies moved up to second position on the 17th lap and was a few steps behind Rea at the start of the course. Very confident after his victory a week ago in Aragon and his second place a few hours ago in Assen, the Ducati rider nevertheless manages to climb back into Rea’s backsplash in the series of fast curves, setting the best time in the race. and moving away from Haslam and VDM.

As in the first round, Jonathan Rea makes no mistakes and tries to crack his competitors when there are only three laps to go. Only Chaz Davies hangs on while Haslam and Van den Mark fight for the third step of the podium. Sykes gives way visibly and will have to settle for fifth place.

In front, "JR" drives the point home on the penultimate lap and places his Kawasaki out of reach. However, "Chazie" did not give up and got slightly closer to Rea midway through the final loop. But the n ° 65 holds on and wins his second double of the season !

The audience stands in the stands to applaud the former Honda Pata rider … and the new one, as Michael van den Mark crosses the finish line just in front of Leon Haslam! However the n ° 60 was not satisfied with a "simple" blockade in the chicane…

Like Johnny on several occasions, Michael made a sublime pass in the final double left! Combative, Leon did not give up and attempted a response to the braking of the chicane. But the Aprilia rider had to widen and trace straight through the gravel.

Also off the track, but far and therefore shorter, Michael van den Mark rushes to a second consecutive podium that he signs with a new wheelie in front of the main stand! Haslam and Sykes again complete the Top 5 while Guintoli is inserted between the Spaniards Torres and Fores.

Totaling 190 points (out of 200 maximum), Jonathan Rea now has a colossal lead over Leon Haslam: 50 points, or two victories! Still third, Chaz Davies goes back 17 lengths of Aprilia rider n ° 91. Tom Sykes takes 4th place from Jordi Torres, but cannot be satisfied: he is 102 points behind his teammate.
