Second Superbike Aragon race 2016
A good start for the two Kawa who took the lead in the race once the first sequence had passed. Chaz Davies immediately takes third place ahead of Guintoli. Giu, VDM and Lowes fight from the first corners. Fores overtakes Hayden halfway through.
As Sykes begins to escape, Davies passes Rea just before descending the long straight back. Ducati n ° 7 gallops funny, drops Kawasaki n ° 1 at the start of the 2nd lap and quickly lodges in the wheel of n ° 66.
Behind, Guintoli is doubled by Giugliano then Van den Mark. Lowes is in ninth position behind the Spaniards Forès and Torres. Further in the peloton, the Kawasaki n ° 20 goes highside and sends Barrier to the mat, forcing Lussiana to widen her trajectory … Syl’20 is accompanied off the track by the marshals.
In front, Davies momentarily stumbles on Sykes but finds the opening in the 4th lap and moves away immediately. Sykes and chased by Rea, Giugliano is three seconds behind his teammate and must beware of Fores who goes up like a bullet…
A second behind Van den Mark – alone in sixth place – Guintoli tries to defend his seventh place against Torres. But the Frenchie is overwhelmed by the "Spanish Elvis" on the 6th passage in front of the pits. Very fast alone on a lap, the R1 has more trouble in the race…
In the next loop, Giugliano suffered a problem with his Panigale in the middle of a turn. Fores almost bumps into the Italian, who raises his hand to apologize, and nods furiously as he walks past his team moments later…
Alone in the lead, Chaz Davies’ factory Ducati works perfectly. The Welshman is two and a half seconds ahead of Sykes and three over Rea. At seven seconds, on his private Panigale, Fores occupies – as in the first round – a solid fourth place.
A few lengths behind "Major Tom" for several laps, the ruthless "JR" attacks his teammate in the long straight and stays in front when it comes to seizing the brakes. Jonathan completed the 11th lap six tenths of a second faster than Tom but then struggled to widen the gap.
Giugliano’s ordeal continues: the Italian is in seventh place six laps from the end while he turns at the same times as the Kawasaki … but seven tenths slower than his teammate who parades in front. Torres on the other hand delighted his home crowd by snatching fifth place from Van den Mark.
On the 15th lap, Rea lost his first braking, bites off the track and loses his second place. Unperturbed, Sykes took the opportunity to stick two seconds in the sight of his teammate. Victim of a problem on his Fireblade, Hayden returns to the pits…
Chaz Davies starts the last lap with a colossal lead over his compatriot Tom Sykes: 6.4 seconds! Winning the 700th World Superbike race was, it seems, a mere formality for him. He leaves Aragon with the maximum points and a high morale !
Two seconds behind the No.66 Ninja, Jonathan Rea secures another podium – his sixth in six races! – but lets slip five points in the championship: "Johnny" has 26 points ahead of his new runner-up "Chazie" and 29 over "Major Tom".
Spaniards Xavi Fores and Jordi Torres are delighted to complete the Top 5 of "their" second round in Aragon. Torres took the opportunity to climb to the level of Sylvain Guintoli in the provisional classification (53 points each). Next points distribution: in two weeks at Assen, stay tuned !
