WSSP Germany: solid Sofuoglu, surprising Tuuli, reassuring Cluzel
The ninth race of the 2016 Supersport World Championship has just taken place on the technical track of the Lausitzring. Starting from pole, Kenan Sofuoglu had to spit out his gloves to beat a breathtaking Niki Tuuli. Jules Cluzel is back on the podium !
Start: poleman Kenan Sofuoglu got off to a good start and took the lead ahead of Scandinavians Niki Tuuli and Christoffer Bergman. Jules Cluzel climbs to fourth position at the end of the first section of the circuit. He continued by overtaking Bergman in turn 9. In the next turn, Tuuli passed the n ° 1 in the discipline. !
The Yamaha n ° 66 therefore completed the first lap in front of the best enemies Kenan and Jules. Bergman tries to stay in touch while Gino Rea is a good second behind, leading the peloton of Krummenacher, Caricasulo, Zanetti, Jacobsen, Wahr, etc. Cedric Tangre is 27th.
Sofuoglu signs the fastest lap in the race in the 2nd loop and takes back the lead at the end of the second straight line of the circuit. The pilot – strong as a – Turkish gradually moves away from Niki Tuuli chased by our "Coq Supersportif".
In the background, Kenan’s teammate and first rival in the championship, Krummenacher passed Rea on the 4th lap. Caricasulo and his Honda n ° 64 take the aspiration of the MV Agusta n ° 4 … Jacobsen does not turn fast enough to move up the peloton.
At the forefront, the Finnish pilot – just 20 years old! – whips his Yamaha n ° 66 and puts pressure on the quadruple world champion! Tuuli even breaks Sofuoglu’s race record in the 5th lap, but loses some ground in the next loop.
Jules Cluzel is just a second from the second step of the German podium. Krummenacher, who has just passed Bergman, is 2.5 seconds behind our compatriot. Just behind, Rea is unfortunately let go by his F3 at the end of the 7th lap … Sad birthday present.
Up front, Tuuli improved his race record even further and joined the Turkish driver’s rear wheel with 10 laps to go. Unable to match the times of the leaders – he conceded them half a second on the last lap – Cluzel certainly hopes that a fight begins between the two leaders, which would allow him to reduce – fill? – its 2.5 seconds delay.
Three seconds behind our national "Julo", Krummenacher, Bergman and Caricasulo circulate in a fairly tight formation. The Italian and the Swedish start a battle on the 12th lap and let the Swiss go. Two and a half seconds later, PJ Jacobsen tries to keep Lorenzo Zanetti behind him.
Britons Smith and Stapelford are ahead of Baldolini, Okubo and Badovini: all are aiming for ninth place! Wahr and Bassani complete the Top 15. Our French champion Cedric Tangre and his GSX-R600 occupy the 25th place, 52 seconds behind Sofuoglu still leader, and half a second ahead of Stirpe.
With five laps to go, Jules Cluzel is almost guaranteed to get on the podium. Sofuoglu and Tuuli too, but their positions are not yet established: the Finnish is still in the wheel of the Turkish … who keeps a little in the grip for the final revolutions ?
Ten seconds behind the leading duo, the gaps are seriously narrowing between Krummenacher, Caricasulo and Jacobsen! The Italian is preparing to play the referee between the two pursuers of Sofuoglu in the championship … The n ° 64 passes in front of the n ° 21 at the end of the undulating first passage of the circuit.
The penultimate lap is launched: while Kenan does indeed start to move away from Niki, the fight for fourth place intensifies and turns to the advantage of Patrick Jacobsen! The American defeats Randy Krummenacher then Federico Caricasulo…
Much faster than Tuuli in the last two laps, Kenan Sofuoglu soars to his fifth victory in nine races, his third in a row! The advance of the "Number One" in the provisional classification is such that it could be crowned a fifth time from the next French race, at Magny-Cours.
Niki Tuuli finishes the race in the wake of the Turkish … and completes her lap of honor on a scooter! Jules Cluzel takes his first podium since his victory at Imola on May 1st. Satisfied with the progress made on his official F3 during the summer break – and last night! -, "Julo" is already looking forward to riding in front of his audience…
In the championship, Kenan Sofuoglu’s counter shows 171 points, 53 (!) More than his teammate Randy Krummenacher, his own teammate. Jules Cluzel takes advantage of Gino Rea’s retirement – and his great race! – to move up to fourth place (91 pints), 18 points behind Patrick Jacobsen (109).
