RST? Never heard? We can understand that: The British brand is coming to Germany for the first time in 2020 and will bring airbag jackets with it. In&Motion are firmly integrated.

In England, RST has long been a successful clothing manufacturer, equipping numerous drivers for the legendary TT races on the Isle of Man. While products from the origins of RST – leather – are mainly used there, the makers are pushing ahead with a broad textile collection in 2020. In addition, with In&Motion has brought a French airbag manufacturer on board and initially wants to hang four jackets with firmly sewn airbags in the shops.

Due to the merger of the two large distributors Bihr and Moto Direct, the latter is the owner of the own brand RST, RST products will in future also be offered on this side of the channel. The entire RST portfolio should be available by the beginning of 2020. We are now introducing you to the four airbag jackets.

In & Motion airbags: how they work

As already mentioned, RST, in cooperation with In&Motion on airbags sewn firmly into the jacket, including back protector. The entire sensor system is in a small box that has to be bought extra (399 euros) or rented (120 euros per year / 12 euros per month). There are various subscription models to choose from. An additional app allows updates and various configurations. The small box is latched into the back protector when driving and can therefore also be used in different jackets. The inflator cartridge is also installed here and can be purchased as a spare part and exchanged yourself after it has been triggered. In&Motion recommends, however, that the entire jacket be sent in for a check after three releases at the latest, even if there is no obvious damage.

RST Pro Series Adventure-X textile jacket

The Adventure-X 2020 comes with an integrated airbag and is waterproof and comes in two color variants. She plays in the membrane league as a team. Removable: The waterproof thermal inner jacket is zipped and can be stowed in the large pocket on the back. Level 2 protectors are built in, as well as external sliders on the shoulders. It is available in sizes S to 5XL and in the colors black and blue-red. They can be bought for 679 euros.

RST Race Dept V4.1 leather suit

The airbag flagship is a leather one-piece for racing use, consisting of 60 percent kangaroo and 40 percent cowhide. The protection is reinforced by level 2 protectors and aramid fibers. The knee sliders are attached with an inverted Velcro fastener, so the Velcro side is on the combi, the loop on the slider, to ensure a firm hold even after repeated changes. Some stretch sections are built in to create enough space when the airbag is triggered. The suit is available in black and in sizes 38/48 to 50/60; for 1199 euros.

RST GT leather jacket

The classic black leather jacket “GT” is made of cowhide and comes with large perforated sections and mesh lining for good ventilation. The jacket is equipped with level 2 protectors, discreet shoulder grinders and of course the in&Motion airbag. This leather jacket is also equipped with stretch components so that there is enough space. The jacket is available in sizes 38/48 to 52/62, on sale for 679 euros.

The classic black leather jacket “GT” does not reveal from the outside that it is carrying an airbag.

RST GT textile jacket

The textile version of the GT jacket comes with an integrated waterproof membrane and removable thermal lining. This jacket is also equipped with level 2 protectors. With a 360 degree zipper it can be combined with the matching GT textile trousers, for example. It is only available in black, with a reflective logo, and in sizes XS to 4XL. Available for 579 euros.

The textile version of the “GT” is waterproof and also only available in black.

Conclusion

The four jackets attract with a beginner-friendly price and proven airbag technology from In&Motion, as used, for example, in Held’s clip-in airbag vest. According to the French company, very few use the option of buying the control module, especially since the subscription model, which can be canceled at any time, appears to be much more flexible. The racetrack package is also available for 25 euros a year.
